Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics are accepted in the curbside waste stream, with televisions, computer equipment, copy machines, cell phones and electronics with their cords on the accepted list. Used computer equipment including central processing units, monitors, keyboards, mice, modems and printers is also accepted at the city's hazardous waste drop-off day.

City cost & eligibility
Curbside electronics carry no separate published charge, and the hazardous waste drop-off day publishes no fee either, so confirm the current arrangements with the Division of Public Works on 248-871-2850. The RRRASOC recycling drop-off sites explicitly refuse electronics, so they are not an alternative.
When & how
Put the device out with the regular collection, or take computer equipment to the annual hazardous waste drop-off day at Oakland Community College's Orchard Ridge Campus, 27055 Orchard Lake Road, which runs from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on a date published by RRRASOC.
Get it ready
Take the batteries out of anything that has them, because the city treats batteries as hazardous waste rather than trash, keep the cords with the device because they are accepted, and wipe personal data before a computer leaves the house.

One weekly collection covers waste, recycling, compost and bulk

Farmington Hills collects mixed waste, recyclables, compost material and bulk items once a week from single family residences, and the city states that a bulk item does not need a call in advance. Bulk items are defined as a large piece of furniture, bed springs, a mattress or box spring, a refrigerator or freezer with the doors removed, a stove and other such items incidental to housekeeping. Cans, bags and bundles go to the curb no earlier than 6:00 PM the day before collection and all containers come off the curb within 12 hours of collection, with pickup between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM and everything out by 7:00 AM because times vary from week to week. Mixed waste containers must be between 10 and 35 gallons with a combined weight of no more than 60 pounds, and plastic bags between 10 and 30 gallons at least 2 mil thick with no more than 40 pounds inside, while cardboard boxes are not acceptable containers.

Yard waste is seasonal and chemicals have their own days

Yard waste collection runs from the week of April 6, 2026 through the week of December 14 to 18, 2026, and residents can put it in brown paper yard waste bags rolled closed, in a 35 gallon trash can with a free yard waste sticker on both sides from City Hall or the DPW, or in bundles of brush and small limbs no more than six inches in diameter, four feet long and 60 pounds, and mulch the rest back into the lawn; unbundled brush, large limbs and large amounts of dirt or sod will not be picked up. Christmas trees go out with the regular trash until the end of January, and free compost is available to Farmington Hills residents at the William Grace Dog Park property on 29040 Shiawassee Road east of Middlebelt during park hours. Household chemicals go instead to the annual household hazardous materials drop-off day the city co-sponsors with Farmington at Oakland Community College's Orchard Ridge Campus, 27055 Orchard Lake Road, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on a date published by RRRASOC, or to a RRRASOC region-wide event, and batteries are hazardous waste rather than trash.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Farmington Hills keeps almost everything inside its own weekly collection, so the first answer for a couch, a mattress, a refrigerator or a treadmill is the curb rather than a trip. The city contracts with Priority Waste for refuse, recycling, bulk item pickup and yard waste, bulk items are collected on the regular collection day with no call in advance, and the definition covers large furniture, bed springs, mattresses and box springs, a refrigerator or freezer with the doors removed, a stove and similar household items. Cans, bags and bundles go out no earlier than 6:00 PM the day before and everything has to be at the curb by 7:00 AM because collection runs from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM and the timing varies week to week, and containers must be between 10 and 35 gallons with a combined weight under 60 pounds. Yard waste follows a season that runs from the week of April 6 to the week of December 14 in 2026 and takes brown paper bags, a 35 gallon can with a free sticker from City Hall or the DPW, or bundles of limbs up to six inches across, four feet long and 60 pounds, and Christmas trees ride the regular trash until the end of January. What the city will not take is where a trip becomes necessary: construction debris, building materials, concrete, dirt, bricks, sheet rock, siding, shingles, ceramic tile, masonry, tree stumps, pianos and tires are all refused, with tires pointed at a retailer and vehicle parts at a scrap metal dealer or salvage yard. Household chemicals and used computer equipment go to the annual co-sponsored hazardous materials drop-off day at Oakland Community College's Orchard Ridge Campus on 27055 Orchard Lake Road, and Farmington Hills residents can also use any RRRASOC region-wide event or the authority's ERG site at 13040 Merriman Road in Livonia, where RRRASOC residents may drop hazardous waste on non-event days without a fee. Recyclables can be dropped unsorted at the RRRASOC materials recovery facility at 20000 W. Eight Mile Road in Southfield or at the Novi site, both free and open to the public seven days a week during daylight hours, with foam, hazardous waste and electronics excluded from those sites, and free compost is available to residents at the Dog Park property on Shiawassee Road. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Farmington Hills.

How much does TV removal cost in Farmington Hills?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Farmington Hills?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Can a television go out with the trash in Farmington Hills?

Yes. Televisions are on the city's accepted item list along with computer equipment, copy machines, cell phones and electronics with cords, so a television goes out with the regular weekly collection. Batteries are the exception: the city treats them as hazardous waste, so they should be removed from a device before it goes out.Official guidance

Is there a recycling drop-off besides the cart?

Yes. RRRASOC opens drop-off areas free to the public, including the materials recovery facility at 20000 W. Eight Mile Road in Southfield, on the northeast corner of Evergreen and Eight Mile, and a site at the Novi DPS Garage on 26300 Lee Begole Drive. Both are open daylight hours seven days a week and take unsorted, unbagged recyclables, but polystyrene foam, household hazardous waste and electronics are not accepted at either site.Official guidance
