No charge. A residence served by the city refuse route, which is paid for through the annual refuse tax rather than a separate per-pickup charge. Each piece of furniture or bundle of carpet counts as one of the five bulk items allowed in a week.
When & how
Collected with the regular refuse on the Monday through Friday collection day for the address, and a holiday week pushes the remaining collection days one day later.

Refuse, recycling and bulk items are at the curb by 7 a.m. on the collection day, and the city asks residents not to set anything out before 1 p.m. the day before. Nothing goes in the street.

Arrange it
Put the items beside the refuse cart at the curb by 7 a.m. on the collection day, tie or bundle each piece to four feet or shorter and under 50 pounds, and take the doors off a refrigerator or freezer.
Five bulk items a week, no move-out, eviction or remodel load, and dirt, brick, wet paint, nailed wood, hot tubs, pool tables and loose bags of refuse are outside the bulk list.
Furniture, lumber, tires, dirt and tree stumps from residents, brought to the spring clean-up Saturdays.
Sterling Heights residents only, with all items inspected at the event. Commercial waste and air conditioning units are refused, along with ammunition and explosives, controlled substances, laboratory chemicals, non-standard or unidentified gases, radioactive material, shock sensitive material and medical sharps.
