Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?
Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.
An exercise bike, elliptical or rower
Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.
Weights, racks and benches
Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

City cost & eligibility
If the county accepts the machine as bulky waste, one large item is free with a county sticker and anything beyond that is charged per unit or by weight. If it will not be accepted as bulky waste, a private hauler sets its own price. Confirm the machine and the category with county solid waste before you load it.
When & how
North Mecklenburg Disposal and Recycling Center, 12300 N. Statesville Road, Huntersville, Monday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., once the county confirms the machine is accepted there.
Get it ready
Break the machine down as far as it will go and separate metal parts, because the centers take scrap metal including bicycle frames, grills and mowers. Remove or drain anything the machine holds so nothing leaks in the load, and ask before bringing a machine that still has a battery inside it.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Cost & conditions
The town states that residents may contract with a private hauler for bulk items, and each company sets its own price for the load, so the cost is quoted by the hauler you choose rather than published by the town.

Call a licensed private hauler or a junk removal company and describe the items, the access and the pickup address.
A private hauler is the route the town names for bulk items, but the town publishes no rate, no hauler list and no item guarantee, and hazardous material cannot be collected this way because household hazardous waste is free to county residents only at the county centers.
A Cornelius household hauls bulky material rather than setting it out, because the town provides garbage, recycling and yard waste collection only. Furniture, mattresses, appliances, televisions, computers, scrap metal, construction debris and household hazardous waste go to a Mecklenburg County full-service center, and the nearest is the North Mecklenburg center at 12300 N. Statesville Road in Huntersville, open Monday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Loads must arrive separated by material, one large bulky item is free to a county resident with a blue sticker, and loads above fourteen cubic yards go to the Foxhole landfill in Charlotte. Which option covers a Peloton, spin bike or recumbent bike?+
Choose Exercise bike for one stationary bike, including spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes. Peloton and other brands use the same stationary-bike choice. A treadmill, walking pad and outdoor bicycle are different items, so select their matching options.
How do I book free weights, a weight rack or a bench?+

Yes. Mecklenburg County residents display a free blue entry sticker and show proof of residence such as a driver's license. Without a sticker the load is charged at the out of county category, and a non-county resident can buy an annual sticker. Household hazardous waste is accepted free from Mecklenburg County residents at any of the four full-service centers, including the North Mecklenburg center in Huntersville. What can go out with yard waste?+
Yard waste is collected weekly on the same day as garbage, in bags of 50 pounds or less, with up to 20 bags of leaves a week. Limbs must be no larger than five inches in diameter and no longer than four feet and stacked in piles no bigger than four by four by four feet with two feet between piles.
