$10 per bulky item tag, with a mattress and a box spring treated as two separate items. Dover households on the curbside collection route, for a non-metal mattress or box spring within the published tag limits.
When & how
Have the unit at the curb by 7 a.m. on your regular trash day with the tag attached, and it is collected with the trash that day.

Keep the unit dry and check the published tag limits before you buy a tag, because the program is written for non-metal items up to a set weight and the Recycling Center cannot take a padded item as a fallback.
Bags, tags and recycling follow the same set out window
Everything for curbside collection goes out by 7 a.m. on your trash day, and nothing goes to the curb earlier than 4 p.m. the day before. A 15 gallon Dover bag holds no more than 20 pounds and a 30 gallon bag no more than 35 pounds, both tied shut, and a tagged bulky item leaves on the same day as the trash. Recycling goes out with it, and the city will not collect bottles, cans or paper that are left curbside in plastic bags.
The bulky item tag is published for non-metal items, so a couch, a mattress, a toilet or a rolled carpet can leave from the curb while a refrigerator, a washer, a television, a microwave and a large load of construction material cannot. Buy the tag before collection day at the City Clerk's Office, the Public Works facility on Mast Road, the Recycling Center or a store that sells Dover bags, and attach it to the item you are setting out.

$10 per bulky item tag, bought from the City Clerk's Office, the Public Works facility, the Recycling Center or a store that sells Dover bags. One non-metal item per tag, within the published size and weight limits; metal, appliances, electronics and material with its own fee at the Recycling Center are not tag items.
Arrange it
Buy the tag before your collection day, attach it to the item, and put the item at the curb by 7 a.m. on your regular trash day.
A padded or upholstered item cannot go to the Recycling Center instead, and a television, a microwave or a refrigerated appliance is refused at the curb even with a tag.

You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed.
