The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.
Flat-screen TVs
Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.
Tube TVs
An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.
TV stands and other electronics
The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Get it ready
Keep tires out of the regular route: rims must be removed, a household is limited to four tires per drop-off with a fifteen tire maximum, and car tires are billed per tire up to four before larger loads are billed by weight. Motor oil is taken separately at the transfer station, free to residential customers up to two gallons per visit.
Bulky waste is never taken on the regular trash day. Only the property owner can reserve an appointment, appointments are first come, first served, and the City counts two standard bulk disposals a year per property location as included with service.
Schedule the mattress pickup first, then wrap the mattress completely in plastic before the crew arrives, because the utility will not pick up an unwrapped mattress. The rule exists to protect the crews and the neighborhood.
The Plainfield Environmental Resource Center at 95 Rock Avenue is open to Plainfield residents and property owners, who must show identification and proof of residency or property ownership. Contractors need a DEP sticker, posted vehicle weights apply, and cash, check, Visa and Mastercard are accepted.

Union County household hazardous waste events
Plainfield households with paint, solvents, motor oil, propane tanks, fluorescent bulbs, batteries, tires or other material that cannot go in either container.
Cost & conditions
No charge. The county lists its household hazardous waste drop-off events as free for Union County residents. Events run rain or shine, latex paint and medical sharps are refused, and containers larger than five gallons are not accepted.
Arrange it
Check the county schedule, then bring material in original or clearly labeled containers to the published event site between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The 2026 schedule lists four events, automobile tires are limited to eight per household with rims removed, alkaline batteries and unknown containers are refused, and unidentified material, explosives, radioactive material and PCBs are not taken.
Plainfield households can self-haul to the city-owned Plainfield Environmental Resource Center at 95 Rock Avenue, which is open to Plainfield residents and property owners with identification and proof of residency or ownership.
