The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Vineland collects trash and recycling one day a week from Monday through Friday, on the same day, in city issued 96-gallon carts, and the division oversees the hauler directly. One piece of bulky waste can go out with the trash each day, and the city names a furniture piece, four tied carpet rolls, four bags of cut grass or one mattress in that allowance. Electronics never go to the curb: they go to the Vineland Compost Facility on South Mill Road, where the city also takes used motor oil and antifreeze at no charge. Construction debris, appliances and everything else the curb refuses route to a permitted private hauler, to the city's scheduled white goods pickup, or to the Cumberland County Solid Waste Complex in Rosenhayn.

Mattresses and box springs

Special rules apply

One mattress is named as the bulky waste allowance for a Vineland trash day and goes out with the weekly collection. The regulations also say trash has to fit inside the 96-gallon city cart with nothing loose on the ground, so confirm the piece with the Recycling Division before it goes out.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. One mattress per trash day is part of the city service covered by the monthly trash and recycling collection fee, which the city lists at $28.00 per month. There is no separate per item charge published, and the allowance covers one mattress rather than a mattress and a box spring together.
When & how
The mattress goes out on your one weekly collection day between Monday and Friday. When the scheduled day falls on a holiday, collection moves to the next day.
Get it ready
Keep the cart rule in view: no material may sit loose on the ground, so confirm that a mattress on its own will be taken before you set it out. Put carts and any accepted piece at the edge of the lawn or curb, never in the roadway.

Appliances and white goods

Special rules apply

Appliances are scheduled rather than set out. The city picks up white goods by appointment after a phone call, and the list covers refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, air conditioners, water heaters, humidifiers, trash compactors, dishwashers and dehumidifiers.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes the appointment number, 856-794-4089, and the list of white goods it takes, but no fee for the pickup. Confirm the appointment and any charge before the unit leaves the house, and note that the county household hazardous waste days explicitly refuse refrigerators, air conditioners and dehumidifiers.
When & how
Call the Recycling and Solid Waste Management Division at 856-794-4089 to schedule the pickup. The county household hazardous waste days are a separate route held three times a year at the Cumberland County Solid Waste Complex.
Get it ready
Empty the unit and have it at the location the division asks about when the appointment is booked, since a scheduled white goods pickup is not the same as a routine cart set-out. Keep cooling appliances away from the household hazardous waste days, which do not accept them.

Televisions and electronics

Special rules apply

Every electronic item is prohibited at the Vineland curb and has to be taken to the Vineland Compost Facility at 1271 South Mill Road, where the city also takes used motor oil and antifreeze at no charge.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. The city lists the electronic, used motor oil and used antifreeze drop-off at the Mill Road facility as free, capped at no more than four electronics per day per household and with no stripped electronics accepted.
When & how
Drop-off only, at 1271 South Mill Road during the site's published weekday window. The county recycling list gives this address Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. while the city page gives 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., so call 856-794-4089 before loading.
Get it ready
Bring the item whole, because stripped electronics are not accepted, and keep the load within the four items per day household limit. Electronics never belong in the trash cart or the recycling cart.

Building, remodeling and demolition debris

Not on the regular city route

Construction waste, demolition debris, wood pallets and renovation material are prohibited at the Vineland curb. A small amount of wood may go out when it is bundled, but anything past two bundles is treated as construction and demolition debris and refused.

City cost & eligibility
From $76.95 per ton of construction and demolition debris before tax at the Cumberland County Solid Waste Complex, where the published total rate including tax is higher for the same ton. The city route for prohibited curbside material is a private hauler holding a New Jersey permit or the county solid waste complex, and the county publishes its rates by waste type for loads weighed at the gate. A load with more than two wood bundles at the curb is treated as construction and demolition debris.
When & how
There is no curbside collection for this material. The county complex is open Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Get it ready
Keep a small wood load under four feet and bundled or tied if any of it is meant to go to the curb, and count the bundles, because more than two is refused as construction and demolition debris. Separate wood, asphalt shingles, brick, concrete and metal so they can go to a recycling company, and treat asbestos as hazardous waste that needs its own handling.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

No Vineland rule names exercise equipment. The bulky waste allowance names one piece of furniture, carpet rolls, grass bags and a mattress, so a treadmill or weight machine has to be confirmed with the division rather than assumed.

City cost & eligibility
Exercise equipment is not named in the published bulky waste allowance and the city publishes no rate for it. Call the Recycling and Solid Waste Management Division at 856-794-4089 to ask whether the piece can go out as the weekly bulky item or has to go through a permitted hauler.
When & how
Ask the division before the collection day. If the piece is refused at the curb, the published alternatives are a private hauler holding a New Jersey permit or the county solid waste complex.
Get it ready
Have the dimensions and weight ready when you call, because the regulations also refuse items larger than the collection allows and require trash to fit inside the city cart with nothing loose on the ground. Keep the machine at the edge of the lawn or curb and never in the roadway if it is accepted.

Bulky items and household clean-outs

Special rules apply

Vineland allows one piece of bulky waste per trash day, and the city names a furniture piece, four tied carpet rolls, four bags of cut grass and one mattress. A whole house clean-out is much larger than that, so it goes to a permitted hauler or the county solid waste complex.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. One bulky waste piece per trash day is part of the city service covered by the monthly trash and recycling collection fee, which the city lists at $28.00 per month. There is no separate per item charge published, and a clean-out load needs a permitted hauler or the county complex at published per ton rates.
When & how
The piece goes out on your one weekly collection day between Monday and Friday, and the day moves to the next weekday when your scheduled day is a holiday. The county complex takes larger loads on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Get it ready
Put carts and any accepted piece at the edge of the lawn or curb no earlier than 5 p.m. the day before collection and bring the containers in by 7 p.m. on collection day, since nothing may sit in the roadway. Confirm the piece with the division before it goes out, because the regulations also say trash must fit inside the 96-gallon city cart with nothing loose on the ground.

The allowance is one bulky item per trash day, and the city names one piece of furniture, four tied carpet rolls up to four feet, four bags of cut grass or one mattress. Construction debris, electronics and motors never go to the curb

Construction waste, demolition debris, wood pallets, renovation materials, hazardous waste, car parts, tree stumps, animal carcasses, electronics, and any type of motors or furnaces are all prohibited at the curb. The published alternatives are a private hauler holding a New Jersey permit or the Cumberland County Solid Waste Complex, and dumping the material in woods, on vacant lots or along roads carries a fine and possible jail time.

Rugs go out tied, tires go out in brush week

Rugs and floor coverings have to be rolled, folded and cut into lengths under four feet and tied, with four rolls per trash day and anything more treated as construction and demolition debris. Tires are collected on the Friday of your brush pickup week and go to the curb the Wednesday before, limited to personal standard vehicle tires up to 18 inches with or without rims, six per collection day and eighteen per household per year.

Brush, grass and leaves have their own limits

Brush and branches are limited to two or three small tied bundles under three feet on trash day, with larger amounts only during the scheduled monthly brush pickup and no lot clearances allowed. Grass clippings go in plastic bags under 40 pounds with four bags picked up on trash day, and extra bags can go inside the trash cart. Loose leaves are collected at the curb in season by the Road Department, bagged leaves have to be called in, and the Mill Road facility takes them as well.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self haul in Vineland starts with the city's own drop-off sites. Electronics, used motor oil and used antifreeze go to the Vineland Compost Facility at 1271 South Mill Road, which the city lists as free to use, caps at four electronics per day for a household and refuses stripped electronics; leaves and brush also go there, and the city and county publish different weekday windows for the same address, so call 856-794-4089 first. Leaves and grass can also go to the city site at 2195 Union Road, where the city warns to call 856-794-4250 before going. Anything the curb prohibits, including construction and demolition debris, pallets, renovation material, motors and furnaces, goes to a private hauler holding a New Jersey permit or to the Cumberland County Solid Waste Complex at 169 Jesse Bridge Road in Rosenhayn, open weekdays 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with loads weighed at the gate and rates published per ton by waste type. How many mattresses can Vineland pick up each week?

One. The bulky waste rule allows a single piece per trash day and names one mattress, and the regulations also list mattresses and box springs inside the trash definition. Anyone with a second piece has to wait for another collection day or arrange removal through a permitted private hauler.Official guidance

Can a box spring go out with a Vineland mattress?

The published allowance names one mattress, while the trash definition lists mattresses and box springs together, so the two lines read differently. Call the Recycling Division at 856-794-4089 before setting a pair out, and note that all trash is also required to fit in the city cart with nothing loose on the ground.Official guidance

Can a couch go out with Vineland trash?

One piece of furniture is the named bulky waste allowance for a trash day, so a couch can go out with the weekly collection on your scheduled day. The regulations also require trash to fit inside the city cart with nothing loose on the ground, so confirm the piece with the Recycling Division before the collection day.Official guidance

How should carpet and rugs be prepared in Vineland?

Roll, fold and cut them into lengths under four feet and tie them securely with rope, cord or tape. Four rolls are collected per trash day, and more than four bundles is treated as construction and demolition debris and declined at the curb, so a larger tear out needs a permitted hauler.Official guidance

How do I schedule an appliance pickup in Vineland?

Call the Recycling and Solid Waste Management Division at 856-794-4089 and ask for a white goods appointment. The published list covers refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, air conditioners, water heaters, humidifiers, trash compactors, dishwashers and dehumidifiers, and the city publishes no fee for the service.Official guidance

Will the county hazardous waste day take a refrigerator or air conditioner?

No. The 2026 flyer excludes refrigerators, air conditioners and dehumidifiers, along with wood, tires and latex paint, even though it takes televisions, computers, oil based paints, propane tanks and fluorescent bulbs with per trip limits. Schedule the appliance with the city division instead.Official guidance

Where do Vineland televisions and electronics go?

To the Vineland Compost Facility at 1271 South Mill Road, because all electronics are prohibited at the curb. The city lists the electronic drop-off there as free, takes no more than four electronics per day per household, and does not accept stripped electronics, so bring the set whole.Official guidance

Can electronics go in the Vineland trash or recycling cart?

No. Electronics are on the prohibited curbside list alongside construction debris, hazardous waste and car parts, and the regulations direct every electronic item to the Mill Road facility instead. A three time a year county household hazardous waste day at the solid waste complex takes televisions and monitors too, limited to two items per trip.Official guidance

What day is trash and recycling picked up in Vineland?

Every address has one trash and recycling day a week, and both are collected on that same day between Monday and Friday. When your scheduled day falls on a holiday, the pickup moves to the next day, and carts have to be out by 5 p.m. the day before rather than earlier.Official guidance

How much bulky waste can I put out in Vineland?

One piece per trash day. The city names one piece of furniture, four tied carpet rolls up to four feet, four bags of cut grass or one mattress, and the same regulations also require trash to fit inside the 96-gallon city cart with nothing loose on the ground. Confirm the piece with the Recycling Division at 856-794-4089 before the collection day.Official guidance

Where do I take electronics in Vineland?

To the Vineland Compost Facility at 1271 South Mill Road, because every electronic item is prohibited at the curb and in the recycling cart. The city lists the drop-off as free, accepts no more than four electronics per day per household and refuses stripped electronics, and the county recycling list gives the same address weekday hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.Official guidance

How do I get rid of a refrigerator or air conditioner in Vineland?

Call the Recycling and Solid Waste Management Division at 856-794-4089 to schedule a white goods pickup, which is how the city handles refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, water heaters and the other large appliances it lists. The county household hazardous waste days are not an alternative for these items, because the 2026 flyer excludes refrigerators, air conditioners and dehumidifiers.Official guidance
