Refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers and air conditioners follow the Thursday appliance appointment, but the household first buys a Freon removal permit sticker from the City Clerk's Office and then calls the metal line to schedule. A licensed contractor that removes the refrigerant and places its own sticker on the unit is the published alternative.

The county facility takes the material by appointment only, and the city's own chemical cleanup days have been discontinued, so nothing waits for a local event. Alkaline and carbon zinc batteries can go in the regular household trash, and radiological or medical waste goes through the county health department instead.

By appointment only, with appointments about two weeks ahead, and the site is closed on holidays. Chemicals, batteries and bulbs never go in the garbage, the recycling or a curbside bulk pile, and alkaline and carbon zinc batteries do not belong at the facility because they can go in the regular household trash. Radiological and medical waste is handled by the county health department instead.
