The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Bend households get curbside service from one of the two licensed haulers Deschutes County names, Cascade Disposal and Republic Services, and the county runs the disposal side. Knott Landfill Recycling and Transfer Facility on Southeast 27th Street is open seven days a week, and the drop-off programmes on that property take the awkward items: mattresses four per day, appliances for a set price each, Freon appliances for a higher price, tires by the each, yard debris and wood waste by the cubic yard, and electronics free through Oregon E-Cycles for up to seven items at a time. A load of household garbage or construction debris is weighed, with a minimum charge for the first 500 pounds, and a properly covered and secured load earns a rebate.

Asbestos containing material is accepted at Knott Landfill but the Solid Waste Department needs approval at least 24 hours before delivery, an approved Special Waste Disposal Application at $50, and the disposal rate is $0.06 per pound with a $125 minimum.Official guidance

Should I recycle a working television or computer instead?

The county suggests reuse, repair or donation first when a television, computer, monitor or printer still works. When it does not, Oregon E-Cycles takes those devices free at the Knott and Negus recycling centers for loads of seven items or fewer, and larger loads are charged by weight at Deschutes Recycling.Official guidance

Can a treadmill go in a household load?

Confirm it first with Deschutes Recycling at 541-388-1910 or with the licensed hauler, because exercise equipment is not named in the county rate list. A machine that is accepted would ride a weighed household load at Knott Landfill or a transfer station, where the price depends on the weight of the vehicle.Official guidance
