City cost & eligibility
No charge. York City curbside customer within the five item weekly limit; no additional fee applies to a scheduled large item collection.
When & how
Book the pickup seven to ten days ahead and set the item out on the confirmed day.
Get it ready
Bag and seal the mattress and box spring, because the city logs scheduled items showing evidence of bedbugs as a collection problem. Keep each piece separate so the item count matches the booking.
Submitting the large item request form does not book the pickup. An attendant calls back within 48 hours, the resident also gets an email confirmation, and nothing should go outside until both have arrived. Collections are scheduled seven to ten days ahead.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
York does not run a public transfer station for residents, so self-hauling means the county routes. Electronics go to the York County Solid Waste Authority drop-off because state law bans them from collection, used motor oil goes to the same authority's listed facilities, and heavy project material such as masonry, shingles and garage doors has to be handled by a private hauler. You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed.
