What will the Knox County centers not take?+
Business, contractor, rental property and commercial generator material, any load above one standard pickup per household per day, block, brick, dirt, gravel, sand, stone and shingles because they are too heavy or slow to unload, greenwaste which has to go to a greenwaste facility, boards or pieces longer than five feet, railroad ties, and waste from outside Knox County without a Knox plate or proof of residency. Who runs the drop off centers and who runs hazardous waste?+
Knox County Solid Waste operates the seven convenience centers, the litter and dumping program, the waste tire program and the problem waste outreach, and it answers on 865-215-5865 with an administrative office at 400 Main Street and weekday office hours. Household hazardous waste is different: the county states that the facility at 1033 Elm Street is managed and operated by the City of Knoxville, keeps different hours and holiday schedules from the county centers, and answers on 865-215-6710.Official guidance
Is curbside collection part of the county program?+
No. The convenience centers are self service drop off facilities, and the county's commercial page lists the private curbside waste and recycling collection companies that operate in the area along with the local landfills and transfer facilities, including the City of Knoxville transfer station, a Class I sanitary landfill for garbage and two construction and demolition landfills.
