The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Burleson contracts its residential collection to Waste Connections, and the city publishes both the rules and the rate. Garbage is picked up at the curb by 7 a.m. and recycling goes out the same week in the free 65-gallon cart that the automated trucks need three feet of clearance to reach. Bulky material runs on a zone schedule: three cubic yards or less can go out on the second collection day of the week, and anything larger waits for the monthly collection week that belongs to the zone, when the pile goes out the Sunday before and the crews work Monday through Friday. The city is specific about what it will not take, including building material, concrete, roofing, treated lumber, automotive parts, dirt and any appliance that still holds freon unless a repair person has removed it and put a sticker on the unit. Chemicals, electronics, tires and paper shredding gather at one city event each spring, and paint, automotive fluids, chemicals and batteries can also go year round to the Fort Worth collection center with a Burleson utility bill.

Weekly household garbage

Accepted with preparation

Waste Connections collects household garbage at the curb twice a week, with recycling once a week in the free city cart.

City cost & eligibility
$25.11 for the published residential collection rate of 25 dollars and 11 cents plus tax, which covers curbside garbage and the approved 65-gallon recycling cart. Residential customers inside the city served by the Waste Connections contract. The rate covers curbside garbage and the recycling cart, and the city also publishes a solid waste collection service application fee for new accounts on its fee schedule.
When & how
Garbage at the curb by 7 a.m. on the collection day and recycling once a week in the approved cart, with no collection on New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day. Weekend holidays cause no interruption, and Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day are regular collection days.
Get it ready
Keep recyclables loose inside the 65-gallon city cart and leave three feet of clearance on all sides so the automated arm can reach it, break boxes down into the cart or stack them with the regular trash, and keep bulky material out of the carts because it goes out on the second collection day or during the zone bulk week.

Bulk items and the zone week

Accepted with preparation

Small bulky loads go out on the second collection day of the week, and anything over three cubic yards waits for the zone collection week each month.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Bulk collection is included with the residential solid waste service at the published monthly rate, with no separate bulk pickup fee published. Three cubic yards or less can go out weekly on the second collection day, and larger volumes go out during the zone week each month.
When & how
Weekly pickups on the second collection day of the week for three cubic yards or less, and a monthly collection week for larger loads that follows the Monday of the month assigned to the zone. Items go at the curb the Sunday before the scheduled week and the crews work Monday through Friday of that week.
Get it ready
Separate brush and yard waste from the bulk items when the pile goes out, keep lots to what the crews can handle, and remember the refusal list: building material and carpet from remodeling, appliances without the freon removed, automotive parts, brick, concrete, dirt, oil, paint, railroad ties, rock, roofing material, shingles and treated lumber will all be left behind. Confirm the zone on the schedule page or with BTX311 before setting out.

Couches, sofas and furniture

Accepted with preparation

Furniture is named on the accepted bulk list and goes out with the weekly allowance or the zone week.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Furniture is collected as part of the residential solid waste service with no separate fee published, using the weekly three cubic yard allowance on the second collection day or the larger monthly zone collection week.
When & how
Put furniture out on the second collection day of the week for a small load, or hold it for the zone collection week when the pile is larger than three cubic yards.
Get it ready
Keep furniture in the bulk pile rather than the carts, keep it clear of limbs and yard waste because the city asks for the two separated at set-out, and keep any piece with living pests out of the pile.
City bulk and brush page with the monthly large volume collection and the weekly three cubic yard allowance, the yard waste bagging and weight rules, the full refusal list covering building material, freon appliances, automotive parts, concrete, dirt, oil, paint, railroad ties, roofing and treated lumber, the acceptance list covering furniture, large toys, drained lawn equipment, limbs up to six feet, brush, mattresses, grills without tanks, kitchen appliances with a freon removal sticker and other large bulk items, and the zone week schedule with the Sunday set-out

Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

Mattresses are named on the accepted bulk list, and the city also points residents to other mattress options.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. A mattress is collected as a bulk item within the residential solid waste service, with no separate bedding fee published and the city linking other options for an unwanted mattress.
When & how
Set the mattress out on the second collection day of the week as part of a small load, or during the zone collection week when the pile is larger.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and in the bulk pile and separate it from brush and yard waste. A mattress with living pests is not something to put out with household material, and the city asks residents to check the other options it lists when a piece can be handled differently.

Appliances and white goods

Special rules apply

Kitchen appliances are accepted as bulk, but a cooling unit needs a sticker showing the freon was professionally removed.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Regular kitchen appliances are collected as bulk items within the residential solid waste service with no separate fee published, and an appliance that held refrigerant is only collected when it carries a sticker showing the freon was removed by an appliance repair person.
When & how
Put the prepared appliance out with the weekly bulk allowance on the second collection day, or during the zone collection week for a larger pile.
Get it ready
For a refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner or other unit that held refrigerant, have an appliance repair person remove the freon first and keep the sticker on the unit, because an appliance without that sticker is on the refusal list. Empty the unit and keep it in the bulk pile rather than the carts.

Televisions and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics are taken free at the city collection event each spring, including tube televisions.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. The city states there is no fee for electronics at its household hazardous waste and electronic recycling event, which accepts electronics and tube televisions. The Fort Worth collection center used for paint and chemicals does not accept electronics.
When & how
Take electronics to the city event on its posted date, which for 2026 is Saturday, May 16 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the city service center on SE John Jones Drive. The event is first come first served and capacity can be reached before it ends.
Get it ready
Bring proof of residency, which can be a city water or solid waste bill, and arrive early because acceptance closes when capacity is reached. Keep the items out of the trash and recycling carts, and note that the year-round Fort Worth center takes paint, automotive fluids, chemicals and batteries but not electronics.

Construction and remodeling debris

Not on the regular city route

Building material, concrete, roofing and treated lumber are refused at the curb with no city construction route.

City cost & eligibility
The city refuses building material and carpet from remodeling, brick, building materials, concrete, dirt, rock, roofing material, shingles, treated lumber and railroad ties in its bulk collection and publishes no construction collection or fee. Remodeling loads go to a private hauler or another facility that accepts construction debris rather than the curb.
When & how
Arrange the haul before the project starts, because construction material is refused in every curbside collection.
Get it ready
Keep the material out of the carts and out of the bulk pile, separate clean concrete, clean wood and metal so a receiving facility can handle the load, and keep hazardous material, oil, paint and dirt out entirely because those are refused as well.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

The accepted list names lawn equipment rather than fitness machines, so the piece is confirmed with the city.

City cost & eligibility
The accepted list names lawnmowers, weed eaters and edgers with the gasoline and oil drained and does not name an exercise machine, and no separate price covers one, so call BTX311 or 817-426-9848 and confirm whether the machine counts as a large bulk item before it goes out.
When & how
Confirm the machine first, then set it out with the weekly bulk allowance or hold it for the zone collection week.
Get it ready
Break the machine down as far as it comes apart, take off the loose weights and the console, and drain any fluid if the machine carries one, following the same drained equipment rule the city applies to mowers and trimmers.

Yard waste, brush and limbs

Accepted with preparation

Bagged yard waste goes out with the second pickup of the week and larger volumes wait for the zone bulk week.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Yard waste and brush collection is part of the residential solid waste service with no separate fee published, using the second collection day of the week for small quantities and the monthly zone collection week for larger volumes.
When & how
Bagged material may be set out with the second trash pickup of the week, and larger quantities wait for the scheduled zone bulk week or go out gradually with that same second pickup.
Get it ready
Use lawn and leaf bags or plastic bags weighing no more than 35 pounds each, keep limbs no longer than six feet, keep brush and small wood pieces separate from household bulk items, and remember that dirt and soil are not accepted at all.

Household chemicals, paint and tires

Accepted with preparation

Chemicals, paint and tires go to the city collection event each spring, or to the Fort Worth center year round for paint, fluids, chemicals and batteries.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. The city states there is no fee for paper shredding or electronics at its household hazardous waste event and sets per household limits on oil, cooking oil, paint, tires and paper, while the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center takes paint, automotive fluids, chemicals and batteries at no fee with a Burleson utility bill as residency proof. No blanket fee or free claim is made beyond what those pages publish.
When & how
Use the city event on its posted date, which for 2026 is Saturday, May 16 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the city service center on SE John Jones Drive, or use the Fort Worth center year round for the materials it accepts.
Get it ready
Keep each product in its original container where possible, bring proof of residency, and stay within the published per household limits: ten gallons of oil or cooking oil, twenty gallons of paint and stain, four tires with no commercial or tractor tires, and three boxes of paper for shredding. Ammunition, fireworks, pharmaceuticals, medical waste, yard waste and anything containing refrigerant are refused at the city event, and refrigerant appliances are handled through the bulky collection sticker rule instead.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

The 7 a.m. set-out and the three foot clearance

Garbage goes to the curb by 7 a.m. on the collection day and recycling goes out once a week in the approved 65-gallon cart with everything loose inside it. The automated trucks need three feet of clearance on all sides, boxes are broken down into the cart or stacked with the regular trash, and one free recycling cart is provided for each residence.

The monthly zone week for larger bulk loads

Three cubic yards or less goes out on the second collection day of the week, and anything larger waits for the zone collection week each month, which follows the first, second, third or fourth Monday of the month depending on the address. The pile goes at the curb the Sunday before the scheduled week and the crews collect Monday through Friday of that week, with brush and yard waste separated from the bulk items. Confirm the zone on the schedule page or through BTX311.

The freon sticker rule for appliances

A refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner or other unit that held refrigerant can only be collected when it carries a sticker showing that an appliance repair person removed the freon. An appliance without that sticker is on the list the crews cannot collect, so the removal has to happen before the item reaches the curb.

A Burleson household that hauls its own material has two chemical gates and no city construction yard.
