The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Cleburne runs its own Solid Waste Service for residents inside the city limits, with weekly automated trash collection in a city cart, a monthly bulk and brush pickup assigned by trash day, and a city transfer station on Pipeline Road. The residential rate is sixteen dollars and eighty cents a month for either a 64-gallon or a 96-gallon cart, the first cart is free, a second cart carries a one-time sixty dollar fee, and a third cart adds a sixty dollar fee plus five dollars a month. Bulk piles go out on the assigned week, and a pile set out outside that week is collected when it is discovered and charged thirty dollars, while trash bags in the cart are limited to household waste because tires, liquids, wet paint, concrete, construction debris and yard trimmings are all refused. Household chemicals are free to residents through an annual city collection and a year-round voucher for the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center, recycling is free at the transfer station for cardboard, glass, plastic numbered 1 and 2 and metal, and televisions, computers, appliances and fitness equipment go through the outside programs the city lists, including the Texas Recycles programs and Best Buy.

Weekly automated trash and the cart fees

Accepted with preparation

The city collects residential trash weekly in a city-issued cart, and the published rate is the same for a 64-gallon or a 96-gallon cart.

City cost & eligibility
$16.8 per month for residential trash pickup with either a 64-gallon or a 96-gallon cart. Cleburne residents inside the city limits. The first cart carries no charge, a second cart carries a $60 non-refundable fee with no extra monthly cost, and a third or any additional cart carries a $60 non-refundable fee plus a $5 monthly fee per cart.
When & how
Weekly on the designated collection day, with the cart at the curb by 7 a.m. and removed by 8 p.m. that evening. The holiday and route map are published on the city's trash route page.
Get it ready
Use only city-approved carts, put the cart out with the handle facing the residence, keep three feet of clearance from obstacles such as mailboxes and three feet between multiple carts, bag the trash and close the lid, and ask Sanitation for a second cart if the lid will not close, because overstuffed carts and bags left outside the cart are not collected. Carts have to be stored where they are not visible from the street, and private collection for hire inside the city is prohibited.

Monthly bulk and brush week

Accepted with preparation

Bulk items go out during the assigned monthly week, which follows the household's trash day, and an out-of-cycle pile is picked up and charged.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. The monthly bulk pickup on the assigned week is included in the residential trash service at no extra charge. A bulk item set out outside the assigned week is picked up when it is discovered and charged $30.00 for each additional pickup, unless the resident removes it from the public right of way first.
When & how
The bulk week follows the trash day: a Monday trash day means the first Monday of the month, Tuesday the second Monday, Wednesday the third Monday and Thursday the fourth Monday.
Get it ready
Place the pile within three feet of the street and six feet from any obstacle, and keep it clear of low hanging trees or anything that would stop the crane from lifting it. Separate bulk trash from bulk brush, because a mixed pile is not collected until the resident separates it. Anything in a trash bag or can, eviction items, construction debris such as lumber and concrete, refrigerators, air conditioners, tires, liquids, brush in the bulk pile and items that fit the regular cart are not picked up as bulk.
Bulk trash service cycle, set-out rules, refusals and out-of-cycle charge

Couches and household furniture

Accepted with preparation

Furniture that does not fit the cart goes out with the monthly bulk week, and it is refused in the cart itself.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Furniture goes out with the monthly bulk pickup assigned to the address and is included in the residential trash service, while an out-of-cycle pile carries the published $30.00 charge.
When & how
Set the piece out during the assigned bulk week that follows the household's trash day.
Get it ready
Keep the piece out of the trash cart, because small or medium items that fit the cart are refused as bulk, and keep it clear of low hanging trees and six feet from obstacles so the crane can lift it. Separate it from any brush pile.

Mattresses and box springs

Special rules apply

A mattress is not named on the city's bulk page as accepted or refused, so it has to be confirmed before it goes out.

City cost & eligibility
No mattress category is published, so call the Sanitation Department on 817-641-2236 and confirm whether a mattress goes out with the monthly bulk week and whether any charge applies.
When & how
Confirm first, then use the bulk week assigned to the address, because a pile set out outside the assigned week is picked up and charged.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress out of the trash cart and clear of the brush pile, and ask about any wrapping or handling requirement when the confirmation is made, because the city publishes none.
Bulk trash service cycle, set-out rules, refusals and out-of-cycle chargeResidential trash pickup rules, cart sizes, fees and transfer station allowance

Appliances, refrigerators and air conditioners

Special rules apply

Refrigerators and air conditioners are expressly refused as bulk, and no city appliance route is published, so the unit has to be confirmed.

City cost & eligibility
The bulk page refuses refrigerators and air conditioners, and no alternative appliance or refrigerant route is published on the city pages read, so call Sanitation on 817-641-2236 and confirm where the unit should go and what it costs.
When & how
Confirm the route before moving the unit, because it will not be collected as bulk or as household garbage.
Get it ready
Keep the unit out of the trash cart and off the bulk pile, because both refuse it. For an appliance that is not a refrigerator or air conditioner, ask Sanitation at the same time, and the city's recycling page also points to Best Buy for certain appliances as an outside option.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

The city's recycling page points residents to the Texas Recycles programs and to Best Buy and Staples for electronics, televisions, appliances and fitness equipment.

City cost & eligibility
The city names the outside programs without publishing a fee for them, so confirm the accepted device and any charge with the program or retailer, and call Sanitation on 817-641-2236 if anything about the route is unclear.
When & how
Use the outside programs the city lists: the Texas Recycles Computers Program for computers, the Texas Recycles TVs Program for televisions, Best Buy for electronics, cables and wires, computers, certain appliances and fitness equipment, and Staples for electronics, ink toner and rechargeable batteries.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before handover, keep the device out of the trash cart and out of the bulk pile, and note that the transfer station recycling containers accept only cardboard, glass, plastic numbered 1 and 2, and metal.
Transfer station recycling rules, the Recyclops franchise and outside electronics programs

Construction and demolition debris

Not on the regular city route

Construction debris such as lumber and concrete is refused as bulk and the carts refuse heavy material, with no city construction route published.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no construction collection, and the bulk page refuses construction debris such as lumber and concrete while the cart rules refuse heavy material such as concrete or construction debris, so the load has to go through a private hauler that sets its own price.
When & how
Arrange a private container or haul before the work starts, and keep the material off the curb and out of both the cart and the bulk pile.
Get it ready
Keep lumber, concrete and similar material out of the bulk pile and the cart, and note that the Fort Worth hazardous waste facility also refuses building materials, so a private construction and demolition route is the only published option.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment is not named on the bulk page, so the machine has to be confirmed, although the city points to Best Buy for fitness equipment recycling.

City cost & eligibility
The bulk page does not name exercise equipment, so call Sanitation on 817-641-2236 and confirm whether the machine goes out with the monthly bulk week, and check the Best Buy option the city's recycling page lists for fitness equipment.
When & how
Confirm first, then use the assigned bulk week or the retailer program the city lists.
Get it ready
Take the machine down where it allows and keep the loose weights with it, and keep the machine out of the cart because small or medium items that can be broken down to fit are refused as bulk.
Bulk trash service cycle, set-out rules, refusals and out-of-cycle chargeTransfer station recycling rules, the Recyclops franchise and outside electronics programs

Household hazardous waste

Accepted with preparation

Cleburne residents can dispose of household chemicals free through an annual city collection and through a year-round voucher for the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free to Cleburne residents: the annual city collection when its dates are posted, or a voucher available year round from the Sanitation Department for the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center, presented with a driver licence or a Cleburne utility bill as proof of residence.
When & how
The Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center at 6400 Bridge St. opens Thursdays and Fridays 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the annual city collection runs when the city posts its dates.
Get it ready
Call 817-641-2236 or email the department to ask about voucher availability, then keep acids, aerosol cans, antifreeze, batteries of all kinds, brake fluid, craft chemicals, degreasers, drain cleaner, fertilizer, unbroken fluorescent bulbs, herbicides, household chemicals, motor oil, paints and stains, paint thinners, pest strips, pesticides, photo chemicals, pool chemicals, oil filters, solvents, transmission fluid and varnish out of the trash and take them in. Ammunition, asbestos, building materials, butane cylinders, explosives, medical waste, pharmaceuticals, PCBs, propane cylinders, radioactive material, smoke detectors and tires are not accepted there.

Transfer station recycling and the subscription service

Accepted with preparation

Recycling is free for residents at the transfer station, and a third-party vendor offers curbside recycling on a subscription.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free for all Cleburne residents at the transfer station. Curbside recycling is a separate subscription through Recyclops, which the city lists under its franchise agreement and which sets its own price.
When & how
Take the material to the transfer station at 2625 Pipeline Rd. during its Monday to Saturday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. hours, or subscribe to the curbside vendor.
Get it ready
Deposit recyclables in the appropriate transfer station containers: cardboard, glass, plastic numbered 1 and 2 only, and metal, with cooking oil and used motor oil also accepted and the oil limited to five gallons a day. Paper is not accepted, and no trash may go into the recycling containers.

Tires

Not on the regular city route

Tires are refused in the trash cart, in the bulk pile and at the Fort Worth hazardous waste facility.

City cost & eligibility
No city tire route or rate is published: the cart rules refuse tires, the bulk page refuses them and the hazardous waste facility lists them as unacceptable, so the tire has to go to a retailer or another private route that sets its own price.
When & how
Ask the retailer that services the vehicle, or call Sanitation on 817-641-2236 to ask whether any local route exists.
Get it ready
Keep tires out of the cart, off the bulk pile and out of the hazardous waste load, and ask the receiving business about its own limit per visit.

Yard trimmings and brush

Accepted with preparation

Yard trimmings are refused in the trash cart and brush is collected on its own cycle, separate from the bulk pile.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Brush and yard waste are part of the city's solid waste service, with brush collected on its own cycle rather than in the garbage cart, and an out-of-cycle bulk or brush pile carries the published $30.00 charge.
When & how
Put the material out with the brush collection on the assigned cycle, and keep it separate from the bulk trash pile at all times.
Get it ready
Keep yard trimmings out of the trash cart, because the city refuses them there to avoid landfill fires, and keep the brush pile separate from bulk trash so neither is held up.

Bulk week follows the trash day, and brush stays separate

The bulk week begins on the month's first, second, third or fourth Monday depending on whether the household's trash day is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Place the pile within three feet of the street and six feet from any obstacle, clear of low hanging trees, and keep bulk trash and bulk brush in separate piles because a mixed pile is not collected until it is separated. Sanitation answers questions on 817-641-2236, new service is ordered through Utility Billing on 817-645-0919, and a Cart Assistance Program helps residents who are physically unable to set their cart out.Official guidance

How does the Cleburne bulk week work?

The bulk week follows the trash day: a Monday trash day means the first Monday of the month, Tuesday the second Monday, Wednesday the third Monday and Thursday the fourth Monday. Set the pile within three feet of the street and six feet from obstacles, keep bulk trash and brush separate because a mixed pile is not collected, and remember that a pile set out outside the assigned week is picked up and charged thirty dollars for each additional pickup.Official guidance

How do Cleburne residents get rid of household chemicals?

Household chemicals are free to Cleburne residents through the annual city collection, whose dates are posted when available, and through a year-round voucher for the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center at 6400 Bridge St. Call 817-641-2236 or email the department for the voucher, bring it with a driver licence or a Cleburne utility bill, and visit on Thursday or Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. or Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ammunition, asbestos, building materials, explosives, medical waste, pharmaceuticals, propane cylinders, smoke detectors and tires are not accepted.Official guidance
