The local disposal guide
Cedar Hill contracts its collection to Waste Management and bills residential customers through the utility bill. Every single family home has a green lid trash cart and a yellow lid recycling cart, collected weekly, with everything inside the cart and the lid shut. Once a month the same hauler runs a bulk and brush pile at the curb, limited to ten cubic yards, and that pile is where a mattress, couch, appliance, fence section or exercise machine goes. Cooling appliances need a tag confirming the refrigerant is gone, and construction debris, tires, televisions and computers are refused there. Waste Management collects hazardous waste and electronics from the doorstep by appointment under the city's at-your-door programme, construction material has a free quarterly allowance at the Ferris landfill, and tires go to named local dealers for a per tire charge.

The handoff matters
Carts go to the curb or the alley by 7 a.m. on the collection day and may be set out no earlier than 6 p.m. or one hour before sunset the night before, whichever comes first. Everything has to be inside the cart with the lid closed, and material left beside or on top of the cart is not collected.
Trash service: carts, set-out window, placement rules, extra cart and parking rulePlace carts within one foot of the curb, or the fence where there is alley collection, with the handles facing the home. The automated arms need three feet of space on all sides, carts stay at least three feet apart and at least five feet from cars, mailboxes and gas meters, and parking within 25 feet of an alley entrance can block collection altogether.
Trash service: carts, set-out window, placement rules, extra cart and parking ruleThe monthly bulk and brush pile goes to the curb by 7 a.m. on the Monday morning of the collection week and may be placed out as early as the Friday before, with earlier placement risking a code violation. The hauler may collect the pile on any day of that week, so it stays out until it is taken.

It goes out with the monthly bulk and brush pile rather than the weekly cart. The pile is limited to ten cubic yards, goes to the curb by 7 a.m. on the Monday of the collection week and no earlier than the Friday before, and the hauler may collect it on any day of that week.Official guidance
No. Everything in the weekly cart has to be inside it with the lid closed, and material left beside the cart is not collected on a normal week. A mattress waits for the monthly bulk pile or another route.Official guidance
Yes. Furniture is on the acceptable bulk list along with appliances and fence sections, collected in one monthly pile of up to ten cubic yards at the curb. The pile goes out by 7 a.m. on the Monday of the collection week and may be placed out from the Friday before.Official guidance
The bulk pile does not include construction debris, hazardous waste, vehicles or parts, tires, televisions or computers, so each of those needs its own route. Trash and recycling carts, by contrast, take everything inside the cart with the lid shut and nothing beside it.Official guidance
It can go out with the monthly bulk pile, but only when it is tagged as free of freon and refrigerant. The same rule covers freezers, window air conditioners and similar cooling units, and the city also asks that water heaters be emptied and toilets drained before they are set out.Official guidance
Both are accepted in the monthly bulk pile, with the water heater emptied of water and the toilet drained and coming from the residence it is set out from. They share the ten cubic yard limit with the rest of the pile.Official guidance
