The local disposal guide
DeSoto runs bulky material on two tracks, and the calendar changed on January 1, 2026. Every household still gets a weekly small bulk allowance on its second collection day, either one large item or up to three cubic yards of small furniture, bundled brush and extra bags, set out beside the cart. Once a month the city also runs a full bulk and brush week, assigned by quadrant, and that one takes up to ten cubic yards at the curb from the Friday evening before the week until everything is cleared by Friday night. Both tracks ride the sanitation charge that already appears on the water bill, the monthly pickup is tied to an active water account, and a household gets twelve of the large pickups a year before it has to arrange anything further with Republic. Appliances are welcome inside the allowance once a refrigerant unit has been emptied and tagged by a technician, but electronics, construction material, tires, batteries and carpet are refused, and the county household chemical center takes only computers and cell phones from the electronics pile.

Appliances ride the bulk allowance with one published condition attached to the cooling units. Washers and dryers are named as large bulk examples, and window air conditioning units, refrigerators and freezers are accepted once the freon has been removed and tagged by an appliance or HVAC technician.
Electronics are refused on both bulky routes, and the county household chemical center takes only computers and cell phones among electronic devices. The city states plainly that electronic waste is unacceptable in the bulk and brush program, and it singles out older mirrored televisions with a hump in the back, so a television has no published destination and the household has to ask.
Large construction loads are written out of the bulk and brush program: lumber, drywall, paneling, tile, flooring, siding, concrete, sheet rock, bricks, glass and carpet or area rugs are refused, and the county household chemical center refuses construction debris as well. The city's own route for a full project is a dumpster arranged through the Action Center, while one small do it yourself project is named on the city's large bulk list as something the ten cubic yard allowance takes.
Exercise equipment is not named in either bulk list, and the bulky program is measured in cubic yards rather than item types, so a machine may fit the weekly small bulk allowance or the monthly pile but nobody publishes that answer. The piece has to be confirmed with the city before it goes out.
The handoff matters

Two tracks. On the household's second collection day of the week, which is Thursday or Friday, it can put out either one large bulky item or up to three cubic yards of small bulk and bundled brush beside the cart, along with up to five extra bags of household trash. Once a month, in the quadrant week the city assigns, up to ten cubic yards of bulk or brush comes off the curb from the Friday before the week until it is cleared by Friday night.Official guidance
Yes, on one of the two bulk tracks. A sofa is named among the city's large bulk examples, so it goes out in the assigned monthly quadrant week, and a smaller piece of furniture can go out with the weekly small bulk allowance on the second collection day instead. Both routes ride the sanitation charge on the water bill, and carpet or area rugs are refused either way.Official guidance
Yes. A mattress is named in the city's large bulk examples, so it goes out in the household's assigned monthly quadrant week inside the ten cubic yard limit, at the front curb and clear of obstacles, and it stays out until the crew clears the pile by 6 pm Friday. The pickup is funded through the sanitation charge on the water bill.Official guidance
Yes, once the freon has been removed and the unit has been tagged by an appliance or HVAC technician. The city names window air conditioning units, refrigerators and freezers in its large bulk list along with washers and dryers, and the appliance then goes out in the assigned monthly quadrant week inside the ten cubic yard limit.Official guidance
Computers and cell phones go to the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center at 11234 Plano Road in Dallas, open Tuesdays from 9 am to 7:30 pm, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 am to 5 pm and the second and fourth Saturdays from 9 am to 3 pm, with a driver's license and a DeSoto utility bill as proof of residence. A television has no published route because the bulk program refuses electronic waste and the county center refuses electronics other than computers and cell phones, so call the Action Center on 972-274-2489 first.Official guidance
Republic Services collects for the city as the primary waste provider, and the DeSoto Action Center handles questions, missed pickups and project containers on 972-274-CITY, which is 972-274-2489. Trash runs twice a week on Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday, recycling runs every Wednesday, and the bulk and brush program is attached to the household water account because the sanitation charge rides on that bill.Official guidance
The city divides DeSoto into four quadrants that a map assigns by address, and each quadrant is served once a month in order: quadrant one the first week of the month, quadrant two the second week, quadrant three the third week and quadrant four the fourth week, with the cycle repeating the next month. The schedule begins on the first Monday of the first full week, and the Republic Services app carries the dates, reminders and extra service requests.Official guidance
Yes. Each account holder is allowed one large brush or bulk pickup of up to ten cubic yards per month, which works out to twelve pickups a year, and once the account reaches that limit any further pickup has to be arranged directly with Republic. The pickups are tied to the water account rather than to a neighbor, so a scheduled week cannot be given away.Official guidance
