The local disposal guide
Dickinson's trash contract sits with the water district, not the city. Galveston County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 took over solid waste in March 2020 and contracts AmeriWaste Solutions, and every residence inside the district and the city limits has to use it. Collection runs twice a week in three zones, and the household cart is a 96-gallon AmeriWaste cart that is the only container serviced. Alongside the cart, any four items mixed or matched from bundled waste, green waste and heavy trash are picked up, and heavy trash is defined as anything too big for a cart, including household appliances and furniture. Refrigerators and freezers must carry a tag proving the refrigerant was removed. Televisions, computers, monitors, microwaves, paint, tires, motor oil, pool chemicals and cooking oil are excluded from the curb and go to the district's hazardous waste route.

The handoff matters
The AmeriWaste cart is the only container serviced, and it goes into the street by 7 a.m. with the wheels against the curb and the front facing the street. Leave two feet of space all round from fences, meters, poles, utility boxes, trees, shrubs, mailboxes and other containers, keep vehicles clear so the truck can manoeuvre, bag loose trash, and keep only garbage inside the cart with the lid closed. Carts are set out no earlier than the night before and returned to the property no later than the morning after collection.
Garbage collection rules, heavy trash and four item allowance, cart rules and the rate scheduleUp to four items mixed or matched from bundles, green waste and heavy trash go out with the cart on the collection day. Bundles stay under five feet long, 18 inches in diameter and 50 pounds, green waste goes in bags no heavier than 50 pounds and no more than four bags or bundles, and heavy trash covers anything too big for a cart, with a refrigerant tag required on a refrigerator or freezer. Televisions, computers, monitors, microwaves, paint, tires, motor oil, pool chemicals and cooking oil must never be put on the street.
