When & how
Book the bulky collection for the scheduled day, with the unit at the curb no more than 24 hours before. A metal appliance can also go to a community collection event on its published date.
Get it ready
Arrange the freon removal before the pickup, because the city states that additional fees apply to items requiring it. Empty the unit and secure the doors, and do not take a refrigerator to a community collection event, where refrigerators are explicitly refused even though other metal appliances such as washers, dryers, stoves and water heaters are accepted.
Bulky material goes out only for the collection booked with the hauler, and the city does not allow it at the curb more than 24 hours before the scheduled pickup. Each booked collection is limited to three cubic yards, and there are four bookings a year per household.
The community collection events take mattresses and box springs, furniture in good condition, paper for shredding with a limit of three containers, tires with a limit of four per car, corded electronics, metal only lawn equipment and metal appliances. Hazardous waste, medical material, batteries, light bulbs, refrigerators, oxygen tanks and construction debris are turned away.

Four bookings a year and three cubic yards each. Tires, vehicle batteries, concrete and bricks, hazardous material and construction waste are refused, multifamily complexes are treated as commercial properties and are not offered curbside bulky pickup, and Tier III and Tier IV customers outside the city limits pay an added fee.

Hazardous waste events need registration by 5 p.m. on the Friday before, identification matching an active utility account, drivers staying in their vehicles, no trailers and no commercial disposal, and they refuse electronics, tires, propane tanks larger than one pound, medical material, oxygen tanks, construction waste, explosives and radioactive or biological material.
Hazardous waste events are held on the published event day from 9 a.m. to noon, and community collection events run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on their published day, with the dates confirmed with the city.
