Households north of Pleasant Run Road are serviced in odd months and households south of it in even months, and the material has to be set out and ready by 7 a.m. on the Monday of the service week. A household that cannot wait can drop up to twelve cubic yards at the hauler's transfer station instead, with proof of residency.
Trash goes out bagged inside the grey 95 gallon cart, and recyclables go out empty, clean, dry and loose inside the blue 95 gallon cart, because bagged recyclables are refused. Carts stay at least three feet apart from each other and from obstacles such as mailboxes, cars, fences, gas meters and ditches, sit where the driveway meets the street with the wheels toward the residence, and have their lids closed.
Chemicals, tires, batteries and propane never go in the pile
Household hazardous waste such as paint, motor oil and pool chemicals, along with tires, batteries and propane tanks, are prohibited in the brush and bulk collection and in the carts. Commercial construction and remodeling debris is prohibited as well, and loose household debris has to be boxed in a container no larger than two feet by two feet by four feet and no heavier than fifty pounds.
Use the free events for everything the curb refuses
Trash Off runs four times a year in the odd months at 1501 N. Dallas Avenue next to Regions Bank and takes bulk trash, recyclables, scrap metal, brush and electronic waste such as computers, kitchen appliances and televisions, free to Lancaster residents with proof of residency. Community Waste Disposal hosts two X-treme Green events a year alongside them for household hazardous waste, automotive tires, household metal goods, document shredding and used electronics, and the city answers questions at 972-218-1213.
