Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

  2. Choose a permitted outdoor spot.

Use a stable, accessible location with a clear path for loading. Keep the TV separate from anything staying. Check building rules before placing it in a shared pickup area.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Special rules apply

Electronics are not part of the bulky pile: the city routes that material to community recycling events and to the public recycling drop off, and the event dates have to be confirmed.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no per item electronics price and lists electronics among the materials accepted at community recycling events rather than on the bulky route, so confirm the next event date and any charge with Customer Service before the device is moved.
When & how
Watch for the next community recycling event or ask Customer Service about the drop off, because electronics do not go out with the bulky pile.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data from the device, keep electronics out of the bulky pile and the carts, and separate any paper for shredding or clothing for donation if the same event takes them.

City of Plano Public Works trash and recycling service

Use a community recycling event or the public drop off

A Plano household with electronics, paper to shred, clothing to donate or other material that does not belong in the carts or the bulky pile.

Cost & conditions
The city lists electronics among the materials accepted at community recycling events and names its public recycling drop off, without publishing a per item charge, so confirm the next event date and any cost with Customer Service.
Arrange it
Watch for the next community recycling event and bring the material prepared, or ask Customer Service about the public recycling drop off.

Events are scheduled rather than continuous, the drop off is the only public one in the city, and this route is separate from the bulky pile and the carts.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self haul in Plano runs through two published places plus the scheduled city services. The public recycling drop off, operated by Republic Services, is the only recycling drop off open to the public in the city, and community recycling events held around Plano take electronics, paper for shredding and clothing donations on their published dates. Material that will not fit a cart or the bulky pile moves through the city's scheduled services rather than a neighborhood drop point: a household chemical collection to the door for paint related products, cleaners, oils, pool and garden chemicals, fire extinguishers and helium tanks, and a special paid collection with a boom truck for over sized piles, refrigerant appliances and large renovation loads. The one destination the city names for loads it will not take is the 121 Regional Disposal Facility that NTMWD owns north of the city, and the city sends waste from a project that requires a contractor there through the contractor or a permitted hauler rather than through the curb. Two streams are refused on both the free and the paid collection: bricks, rock, asphalt, gravel, concrete, dirt, soil and sod, and roofing material and shingles. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Plano.

How much does TV removal cost in Plano?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Plano?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where do televisions and computers go in Plano?

To a community recycling event or the city's public recycling drop off, because electronics are not part of the bulky waste pile. Events are scheduled regularly around the city and take electronics alongside paper shredding and clothing donation, so confirm the next date with Customer Service before the device leaves the house.Official guidance

How do I get rid of a couch or a mattress in Plano?

Put it out on the assigned monthly bulky waste day. Furniture, mattresses and box springs are all on the accepted list for the free bulky pile, which has to stay inside six feet by four feet by four feet and goes out no earlier than five days before the day and no later than 7 a.m. on it.Official guidance

What about refrigerators and other appliances?

Stoves, washers, dryers, water heaters and microwaves ride the free bulky pile, but a refrigerator, freezer, window air conditioner or water cooler is treated as an item containing refrigerant and has to be booked as a special paid collection with an environmental fee added to the per cubic yard rate.Official guidance

Can a television go on the Plano bulky pile?

To a community recycling event or the city's public recycling drop off, because electronics are not part of the bulky pile. Events are scheduled regularly and take electronics with paper shredding and clothing donation, so confirm the next date with Customer Service.Official guidance

How do paint and chemicals leave a Plano home?

By a scheduled household chemical collection: the items go in a cardboard box marked HCC at the collection point by 7 a.m., under fifty pounds and two feet from the carts, with a 15 gallon limit per collection and no container larger than five gallons. Chemicals stay in their original containers except for automotive fluids, and collected products are given away free at the city reuse center.Official guidance

What is refused on every Plano route?

Bricks, rock, asphalt, gravel and concrete, dirt, soil and sod, roofing material and shingles, railroad ties, glass panes, doors and mirrors, compressed gas and air cylinders, vehicle parts and tires, and hazardous products such as paint, oil, pesticides and solvents are refused on the free and the paid bulky routes. Contractor generated waste has to be handled by the contractor or a permitted hauler.Official guidance
