Electronics are excluded from bulky waste by the city's own definition and have two free routes plus a county one. State law requires manufacturers to provide free collection and recycling for desktop and laptop computers, monitors and their keyboards and mice, and the city's Recycle Round Up events accept electronics twice a year at Mercer Stadium. The Fort Bend County Recycling Center is the third route and charges its own fees.

When & how
Use the state lookup for a computer or monitor, or bring the devices to the next Recycle Round Up at Mercer Stadium, 16403 Lexington Blvd, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the published event day, and stay in the vehicle while staff unload.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data from computers and phones, keep wires and cables with the devices they belong to because the event accepts them, keep electronics out of the garbage and recycling carts and off the bulky pile, and bring a Sugar Land identification and a utility bill to the event.
Households receive a 95 gallon grey garbage cart and a 65 gallon green recycling cart, with 65 or 95 gallon sizes available on request. Carts go to the base of the curb with the wheels against the curb, the handle facing away from the street and the lid opening toward the street, at least three feet from utility poles, mailboxes, trees, hydrants and parked cars so the automated arm has room. Garbage is bagged inside the cart, recyclables go in loose, and the cart must not block a sidewalk.
The city's definition is explicit: bulky waste does not include construction refuse, demolition refuse, hazardous waste or electronic waste. Chemicals are never collected with the residential service at all, because they can start fires or react inside the collection trucks, and the city warns that hazardous waste or electronics put out with bulky items will simply be left. Tires are refused at the city's own events and go to the Public Works Service Center instead.
