A few pieces, one pickup

Your room has changed. The old furniture can go.

The desk you no longer use. The dresser that doesn’t fit the new layout. The chairs left over after a move. Choose the pieces you’re done with and give them a pickup day, without arranging a quote visit.

Different pieces. One clear total.

Choose each piece

A table and four chairs are five items.

You don’t need to guess how much space your furniture fills in a truck. Match each piece to the catalog, then add its quantity. Your total updates as you go.

Tables and chairs

Choose the table, then add each chair separately. Coffee tables, side tables and dining tables have their own options. A large or substantially heavy table has a different choice.

Dressers and mirrors

Match the dresser’s overall size. Add a separate dresser mirror as its own item if it is leaving too. Empty drawers and keep the belongings you want before moving the dresser outside.

Desks and bookshelves

Choose by construction, not height alone. A basic desk is different from a heavy desk with a substantial body. A tall, lightweight bookcase can still be a standard bookshelf. Empty it first.

Couches, chairs and furniture

Accepted with preparation

Furniture is named in the city's own bulky waste definition and goes out on the separate bulky day rather than with the carts. Bulky service runs once a month on a Monday, households may put out up to five cubic yards, and three extra collections follow the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's holidays at no additional cost.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Included in the monthly residential solid waste rate: one routine bulky collection each month on the published Monday schedule, up to five cubic yards, plus the three extra holiday collections at no additional cost; further collections are charged on the published additional pickup rates.
When & how
Put the furniture at the curb by 7 a.m. on your bulky waste day and no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before, keeping it four feet clear of other objects and out of the garbage cart.
Get it ready
Keep the piece curbside rather than in a cart, leave loose extra bags beside it rather than inside the garbage cart, and keep construction material, chemicals and electronics out of the pile because bulky waste excludes all three.

How the carts go out

Households receive a 95 gallon grey garbage cart and a 65 gallon green recycling cart, with 65 or 95 gallon sizes available on request. Carts go to the base of the curb with the wheels against the curb, the handle facing away from the street and the lid opening toward the street, at least three feet from utility poles, mailboxes, trees, hydrants and parked cars so the automated arm has room. Garbage is bagged inside the cart, recyclables go in loose, and the cart must not block a sidewalk.

Bulky waste has its own day

Bulky collection is a separate service from the carts and runs once a month on a Monday, on a day households look up by address. Material goes out by 7 a.m. and no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before, households may set out up to five cubic yards, and everything sits at the curb at least four feet from other objects. Three extra collections follow the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's holidays at no additional cost, and any more than that is booked and paid for through Republic Services.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Sugar Land has three self haul options that do not need an appointment. The Public Works Service Center at 101A Gillingham Lane takes passenger tires with the rims removed, up to four per delivery, and liquid cooking oil up to ten gallons a day, both free for residents between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. Blue Ridge Landfill at 2200 FM 521 Road in Fresno takes household solid waste on one free visit a month of up to three cubic yards, Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m., with a driver's licence and a physical water bill required and a hard hat, safety vest and closed toed shoes enforced on site. Household chemicals and electronics are the exception: they are never collected with the residential service, so they go to the city's twice yearly Recycle Round Up at Mercer Stadium with identification and a utility bill, or to the Fort Bend County Recycling Center at 1200 Blume Road in Rosenberg, which lists its accepted material and charges applicable fees. Computers, monitors and their keyboards and mice also have free manufacturer collection under state law. Everything else, including furniture, appliances and bulky loads, waits for the monthly bulky day or is added as a paid extra collection through Republic Services, and construction and demolition refuse is excluded from that programme, so it needs a private container or receiving site.
