City cost & eligibility
No charge. Bulky item collection is part of the residential solid waste service with no per item rate published, and a cooling appliance additionally has to carry the technician tag before it can be set out at all.

Get it ready
Have the chlorofluorocarbons removed and the unit tagged by a certified technician, which the city requires for a refrigerator or air conditioner. Empty the appliance and secure the doors, and keep it clear of carts, meters and parked cars within five feet of the curb.
Bulky items are collected once a week on the day the city sets by route: Tuesday for Tuesday and Friday homes, Friday east of Farm to Market 2004 and Wednesday west of it for Wednesday and Saturday homes, and Thursday east of Highway 146 and Monday west of it for Monday and Thursday homes. The pile goes out no later than 7 a.m.
Bulky piles sit within five feet of the curb or the edge of the street, never beneath overhead wires or low hanging limbs, and never near fences, garbage carts, mailboxes, parked cars, trees or on top of water meters.
At the Biosphere, household trash and minor do it yourself repair debris are accepted from the address on the utility bill, up to two pickup truck loads per residence per week. Contractor debris needs the resident present with the bill, and waste from outside the city is unlawful.
