Weekly bulk and brush

Accepted with preparation

Bulk items and brush are collected every week on the same regular day as trash and recycling. Brush does not have to be tied and bundled but must be no more than four feet long and fifty pounds, and the stack may not be larger than three by three by three.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Bulk and brush collection is part of the residential service the City publishes rates for, with loads up to 3 cubic yards of brush handled on the regular day.
When & how
Bulk and brush go out on the regular scheduled collection day every week, together with the trash and recycling carts.
Get it ready
Stack limbs with the trunks parallel to the street and behind the curb so the pile blocks neither the street nor the sidewalk, and keep the stack inside the three foot cube. Hazardous waste, construction material and remodeling debris are never part of the curbside bulk pile.

Appliances and water heaters

Special rules apply

Stoves and hot water heaters are named in the hauler's large item list, along with other appliances and items of like kind. A refrigerator or air conditioner that still contains Freon is refused at the City's drop-off location.

City cost & eligibility
Appliances are collected as part of the residential bulk service, but the City publishes no curbside Freon procedure while the drop-off location in Justin refuses refrigerators and air conditioners that contain Freon. Confirm a refrigerant appliance with Frontier Waste Solutions at 888-854-2905 or Utility Billing at 817-514-5705 before setting it out.
When & how
Set an appliance out with the weekly bulk pile on the regular collection day, and confirm a refrigerant unit with the hauler or the City first.
Get it ready
Empty the unit and secure the doors, and keep a refrigerator or air conditioner that still holds Freon off the curb and out of the drop-off load until the City confirms the route.

City of Denton landfill alternative

Households hauling their own load that the Justin drop-off will not take, such as a larger mixed load.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Watauga's self-haul option is Frontier's Justin hauling location and office at 805 Topeka Ave in Justin, open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., where a resident shows a valid ID and water bill and pays the published per cubic yard rate for a load limited to a pickup truck load or 3 cubic yards. That location takes brush and bulky household items such as furniture, a hot water heater, an old stove, rugs, toys and a mattress, and it refuses paint, aerosol cans, propane tanks, oils and fluids, batteries, tires, chemicals, fertilizers, and refrigerators or air conditioners containing Freon. The City also names the City of Denton Landfill at 1527 S. Mayhill Road, open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., where the resident pays the landfill directly. Household hazardous waste does not go to either site because the City runs a curbside pickup program instead, and tires are refused both by that program and by the drop-off location.
