A new use for the same space, once the old machine is outside and gone.

Room for what comes next

Your space can have a new purpose.

A home office. Room for a guest. A little more floor to enjoy. When an old machine is in the way, a clear pickup plan makes the next step easier.

The room is changing.

Book the equipment you are ready to let go of, whether it is one exercise bike or several machines. See the total before making the plan.

A replacement is coming.

Check whether your retailer includes removal. If the old treadmill is still your responsibility, give it a pickup day of its own.

It is not making the move.

Settle the price online, arrange to have it outside, and follow the pickup through text updates and completion photos. One less thing to coordinate before the keys change hands.

Match the machine

The right choice covers the right equipment.

Choose by the type of equipment. A brand name does not mean a different item, but a walking pad and a full treadmill do.

Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?

Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.

An exercise bike, elliptical or rower

Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.

Weights, racks and benches

Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Ready for pickup

Plan the move outside before pickup day.

A machine can be too heavy or awkward for a solo move. Arrange suitable help for indoor carrying, stairs or any dismantling needed to reach the outdoor pickup spot.

A pickup day is not an exact arrival window. Tell us before booking about a shared loading area, restricted outdoor access or equipment whose size or setup you are unsure how to select.

Bulk waste piles

Accepted with preparation

Sandy collects one bulk waste pile per home twice a year, and only items on the published list are taken.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Included for Sandy residents only. The programme is not available to businesses, apartments, condominiums, mobile parks or Salt Lake County residents, and anything outside the accepted list has to be hauled away privately or put in a rented dumpster.
When & how
The fall 2026 collection runs from September 21 into early November on the postcard schedule for each home, and items go out no sooner than seventy-two hours before the collection date.
Get it ready
Bag, box or bundle small loose items such as leaves and grass clippings, roll carpet and padding, cut green waste to four feet and eighteen inches in diameter with no sod, cut fencing, posts, lumber and scrap metal to four feet with scrap under fifty pounds, drain oil and gas from small equipment, remove propane tanks from grills, remove glass from furniture, and empty fifty five gallon drums with the tops off. Keep the pile two feet out from the gutter and clear of driveways.

Exercise and sports equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise machines are not on the bulk accepted list, so acceptance has to be confirmed before the pile goes out.

City cost & eligibility
The bulk waste collection is included for Sandy residents, but the City states that items not on its published list will not be picked up, and exercise equipment is not named there. Confirm the machine with Sandy Public Works at 801-568-2999, or plan to haul it away or use the residential dumpster programme.
When & how
Call 801-568-2999 before the bulk collection week, and set the machine out only if it is confirmed as accepted.
Get it ready
Break the machine down where the maker allows it so it fits inside the single pile, keep it two feet from the gutter, and keep any battery out of the pile because batteries are refused in both the bulk programme and the dumpster.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Sandy households that haul their own loads have three published destinations. Household hazardous waste and electronics go free to the Salt Lake County collection centre at 8805 South 700 West inside Sandy, open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the same material is accepted at the Trans-Jordan Landfill in South Jordan and the Salt Lake Valley Landfill in Salt Lake City. A refrigerator or freezer that still contains Freon goes to a landfill, where the published residential fee covers removing and properly disposing of it, or the household has a licensed professional remove and tag the refrigerant and then sets the unit out with the next bulk collection. For volume, the City rents a thirty cubic yard dumpster to a home up to twice a year for up to seventy two hours, taking yard debris, building materials, household items and furniture, with heavy material limited to one third of the container.
