Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, ranges and window air conditioners are bulk waste, collected weekly on your trash day. The city code asks for two steps before the unit goes out: the doors come off refrigerators, freezers and other airtight containers, and the refrigerant is removed from the appliance.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Included with the city collection service for a Hampton address that receives weekly solid waste collection, within the ten cubic yards of bulk waste allowed per service address each week. No per-item charge for an appliance is published.
When & how
Set the appliance out with the weekly bulk on your trash day, no earlier than 3 p.m. the day before and no later than 7 a.m. on collection day, after the door and refrigerant steps are done.
Get it ready
Empty the unit, take the doors off an airtight box, and have the refrigerant removed before the appliance leaves the house, because both steps are required by the city code. Ask the 311 contact center if you are not sure how to handle a sealed unit first.

Arrange it
Take the load to 100 North Park Lane during open hours, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to noon.

Bulk trash from Hampton residents, including furniture, appliances and mattresses, plus construction and demolition debris, municipal solid waste and yard waste or green waste.
Building materials may be disposed of only with a valid building permit issued by the City of Hampton. Hazardous waste is not accepted at the landfill. A resident doing their own work gets five self-hauled pickup truck loads without a customer charge only when the permit is current and in the resident's name, the permit shows the contractor as self, the load is self-hauled and identification with the same address is presented.
Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to noon, closed Sunday.
The city publishes no resident gate rate, and the landfill charges by load for material outside the resident allowance. Confirm the current rate and the permit conditions before the trip, and note that a load that does not meet the self-haul conditions pays the public tipping rate.

Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.
What has to happen before an appliance goes to the curb?+

The City of Hampton Solid Waste Division, part of Public Works, runs the curbside service from 419 N. Armistead Ave. The division picks up household waste, yard waste, scrap metals and bulky items from residences every week, with recycling on the alternate weeks, and it answers questions at 3-1-1 inside the city or 757-727-8311 outside it from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week.Official guidance
