City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free to residents of SPSA member communities such as Portsmouth with proof of residence, limited to five items a day with unlimited trips a year, and free at the city's own special collection events. Confirm the accepting site and the next event date before you load the car.
When & how
Take e-waste to the Regional Landfill at 1 Bob Foeller Drive on weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Saturday 8 a.m. to noon, or to the Chesapeake transfer station at 901 Hollowell Lane on the first Wednesday and third Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, and watch the city page for special collection events.
Get it ready
Keep the device out of the trash can and the recycling cart, bring it in a personal vehicle with proof of residence, and check the accepting site's window before you drive. Commercial e-waste is only accepted at the Regional Landfill.
Paint, oil, hot ashes and hazardous material cannot go in a trash can, and only garbage, trash and recyclables belong in a city container, so electronics, batteries and household chemicals go to an SPSA collection site or a city event instead.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
For paint, oil, batteries, cleaning products, televisions and other electronics that never belong in a trash can.

Arrange it
Bring the material in a personal vehicle to the Regional Landfill on weekdays or Saturday morning, or to a Chesapeake household hazardous waste event on the first Wednesday or third Saturday morning.
Commercial hazardous waste, regulated medical waste and commercial e-waste are refused, and a trip is capped at five gallons of liquid or 75 pounds of solid waste and five e-waste items.
Scrap metal at no charge, small appliances without a certification sticker, up to four automobile tires a day at the Tire Processing Facility, and household hazardous waste and e-waste.
Residents need proof of residence; commercial hazardous waste and regulated medical waste are refused, tires beyond four a day and large off road tires carry a fee, and other loads pay the prevailing disposal fee with a $20.00 minimum.
Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon, with the Tire Processing Facility open on weekdays.

Data erasure and certified data destruction are not included in Dropcurb removal. Back up the information you need, then follow the manufacturer’s sign-out and reset instructions before pickup. If a device cannot be erased or contains sensitive business information, arrange suitable data handling before giving it away.
