Special item recycling is requested by the bill payer and goes on top of or beside the blue recycling cart on collection day, with limits of three bags of textiles, two small appliances or electronics, two fluorescent tubes or bulbs per collection, half a gallon of batteries, and three gallons of motor or cooking oil for each type.
The Shoreline Recycling and Transfer Station at 2300 N 165th Street is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Corrugated cardboard, clean wood, scrap metal and yard waste must be sorted into the recycling areas rather than left in the garbage, the maximum combined vehicle and trailer length is forty feet, and an unsecured load carries a $25 fee.
The Second Use collection area outside the Shoreline station takes reusable interior and exterior doors, vinyl, wood and aluminium-clad windows, lighting without fluorescent or halogen fixtures, lumber six feet or longer and free of hardware, cabinets, tools, and good quality furniture such as seating, tables, dressers and framed mirrors, with acceptance based on a visual check. Hazardous waste, liquids, tanks with compressed gas, treated wood, asbestos and major vehicle parts are refused at the station, and oil-based paints, stains and anything labeled warning, caution or danger go to the North Seattle household hazardous waste site instead.
