The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

San Luis runs scheduled residential trash collection through its Public Works Solid Waste Division and contracts curbside service to C&D Disposal, which also arranges bulky item pickups for an additional charge. The city's own large-item route is the annual Community Cleanup, which names appliances, furniture, mattresses, e-waste and televisions, and hazardous household material goes to the Yuma County household hazardous waste events.

Couches and household furniture

Accepted with preparation

Furniture including chairs, sofas and dining tables is named on the annual Community Cleanup accepted list, and the hauler collects bulky items such as furniture from the curb on the regular collection day for an additional charge.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no cleanup charge, and a bulky item pickup arranged with the hauler carries an additional charge that the hauler page does not price. Confirm the item and the cost with Public Works at 928-341-8577 or with the hauler before booking.
When & how
Either put furniture out during the Community Cleanup campaign, which runs Sept. 28 to Nov. 25, 2026 with items out by 6 a.m. on the scheduled week for the area, or arrange a bulky item pickup with the hauler on a regular collection day.
Get it ready
During the cleanup, place the piece in front of the home without blocking the sidewalk, streets or water meters and keep it out of the alley unless the home faces the alley. For a hauler pickup, describe the item so the crew knows it is a two-person item and not a job that needs a container.

Mattresses

Accepted with preparation

Mattresses are named inside the Community Cleanup furniture list, so bedding has a published municipal route in San Luis.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no cleanup charge. A hauler bulky pickup, if a resident needs one outside the campaign dates, carries an additional charge that is not published, so confirm the amount with Public Works or the hauler before booking.
When & how
Put the mattress out during the Community Cleanup campaign from Sept. 28 to Nov. 25, 2026 by 6 a.m. on the scheduled week for the area, or ask the hauler about a bulky pickup outside those dates.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and place it in front of the home without blocking the sidewalk, street or water meter. Items cannot be set out more than a week before the scheduled area date, and the city passes a residence once only.

Appliances including refrigerators

Accepted with preparation

Refrigerators, stoves, washers and dryers, air conditioners, microwaves, drained water softeners and drained water heaters are on the Community Cleanup accepted list, and the hauler collects refrigerators and other large appliances as bulky items.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no cleanup charge. The hauler charges an additional fee for a curbside appliance or refrigerator pickup and publishes no amount, and the county charges some items a fee at its transfer stations, so confirm the price for the route you choose.
When & how
Use the Community Cleanup campaign from Sept. 28 to Nov. 25, 2026 with items out by 6 a.m. on the scheduled week, arrange a bulky pickup with the hauler on a collection day, or self-haul to the Yuma County South transfer station in Somerton, open Thursday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Get it ready
Drain water softeners and water heaters before set-out, empty the unit, and keep the doors with it. At a county transfer station, appliances are limited to three per load, must be empty and must not be RV refrigerators.

Computers and household electronics

Accepted with preparation

Computers, monitors, printers and other e-waste are on the Community Cleanup accepted list, and the same materials are taken at the Yuma County household hazardous waste events.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no cleanup charge, while the Yuma household hazardous waste events are free to county residents. The hauler charges an additional fee for a curbside e-waste pickup and publishes no amount, so confirm the route and the price before the device leaves the house.
When & how
Put the device out during the Community Cleanup from Sept. 28 to Nov. 25, 2026, take it to a Yuma household hazardous waste event such as Saturday, Nov. 14, 2026 from 8 a.m. to noon at 1473 S 2nd Avenue, or arrange a hauler pickup.
Get it ready
Wipe anything that stores data, bag the chargers and cables with the device, and keep electronics out of the trash carts, because household hazardous waste including electronic waste may not go through the automated residential collection programme.

Televisions

Accepted with preparation

Televisions are listed on the Community Cleanup accepted items, and the Yuma household hazardous waste events accept television sets.

City cost & eligibility
The Yuma household hazardous waste events are free to county residents, while the city publishes no cleanup charge and the hauler's curbside e-waste pickup carries an unpublished additional charge, so confirm the route and any cost before the set is moved.
When & how
Set the television out during the Community Cleanup from Sept. 28 to Nov. 25, 2026, or take it to a Yuma household hazardous waste event on Jan. 10, April 11 or Nov. 14, 2026 between 8 a.m. and noon at 1473 S 2nd Avenue.
Get it ready
Keep the screen whole, wipe stored data where the set powers on, and keep it out of the carts. At the hazardous waste event, residents unload their items on the designated tables and containers are not returned.
Annual Community Cleanup accepted itemsHousehold hazardous waste events open to county residents

Construction, renovation and demolition debris

Special rules apply

The Community Cleanup refuses construction material outright, so renovation debris moves through a county transfer station within its limits or through a rented container from the hauler.

City cost & eligibility
The county transfer stations mark some items as carrying a fee without publishing the amount, and the hauler's temporary bins and larger containers are priced on request, so confirm the load and the cost before hauling.
When & how
Self-haul to the Yuma County South transfer station at 5563 W. County 19th Street in Somerton, open Thursday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., or ask the hauler about a three-yard temporary bin or a container between ten and forty yards for a clean-up project.
Get it ready
Keep the load to one trailer or one truck bed no more than two feet above the cab, because only one load per customer per day is allowed and commercial, industrial and oversize loads are refused at every transfer station. Construction and demolition debris is accepted with carpet, drywall and insulation, but concrete must be no larger than three feet by three feet and shingles, roofs, soil and dirt are refused.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

Exercise equipment is not named on the Community Cleanup list, the hauler's bulky rules or the county item list, so the machine has to be confirmed before it is set out.

City cost & eligibility
No published entry covers an exercise machine. The city publishes no cleanup charge, the county transfer stations price some loads on arrival and the hauler quotes its own fees, so confirm the item and the cost with Public Works or the hauler first.
When & how
Call San Luis Public Works at 928-341-8577 or the hauler's customer service before the machine goes out, and use the cleanup campaign, a county transfer station or a hauler pickup as directed.
Get it ready
Describe the machine, its weight and whether it has a powered console, drain it if it holds fluid, and keep it clear of the sidewalk, street and water meter wherever it is placed.

Bulky household material

Accepted with preparation

Large household material moves two ways: the annual Community Cleanup for San Luis residents, and a bulky item pickup on the regular collection day arranged with C&D Disposal for an additional charge.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no cleanup charge. The hauler's bulky item pickup, overflow collection and refrigerator or e-waste pickups carry additional charges that the hauler does not publish, so confirm the price with Public Works or the hauler before booking.
When & how
Use the Community Cleanup from Sept. 28 to Nov. 25, 2026 with items out by 6 a.m. on the scheduled week for the area, or arrange a bulky item pickup with the hauler for a regular collection day.
Get it ready
Keep items in front of the home without blocking the sidewalk, streets or water meters during the cleanup, and keep hazardous waste, construction debris, commercial dumping, abandoned vehicles and parts, large stumps and propane tanks out of the pile because the city refuses all of them.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Follow the Community Cleanup set-out rules

During the Community Cleanup campaign, place items in front of the home without obstructing the sidewalk, streets or water meters, and not in the alley unless the home faces the alley. Items must be out by 6 a.m. on the scheduled week for the area, cannot be set out more than a week before that date, and the city passes each residence once only, with collection possibly running one to two days late.

Annual Community Cleanup accepted items

Place carts the way the hauler requires

Carts go to the collection point the evening before the collection day, side by side about one foot apart and at least three feet from any obstruction such as a fire hydrant, tree or mailbox, with the handles and wheels facing away from the street, and they come back in within twelve hours after service. Anything not inside a cart is not collected, so overflow and bulky material has to be arranged with customer service.

City of San Luis Public Works and C&D Disposal

Annual Community Cleanup

Appliances, furniture, mattresses, tires without rims, bundled wood and branches, bagged leaves, computers and other e-waste, televisions and carpets from a San Luis residence.

Cost & conditions
The city publishes no cleanup charge and directs residents to Public Works for fees. Confirm any cost and the current campaign details at 928-341-8577 before loading.
Arrange it
Find the scheduled week for your area with the campaign map or address lookup, then put items in front of the home by 6 a.m. on that week, without setting anything out more than a week early. Questions go to Public Works at 928-341-8577.

Hazardous waste such as motor oil, pesticides, paint and pool chemicals, construction material such as concrete, dirt, rocks and bricks, commercial dumping, abandoned vehicles and parts, large tree stumps and propane tanks are refused. Wood and branches must be no longer than four feet and tied or bundled, and leaves must be bagged.

With a new purchase

Arrange a hauler bulky pickup

Furniture, large appliances, and electronic waste or a refrigerator that cannot wait for the cleanup campaign.

Cost & conditions
Bulky item pickups, e-waste and refrigerator pickups and overflow collection all carry an additional charge that the hauler page does not publish, so the amount is quoted by customer service.
Arrange it
Contact the hauler that serves San Luis and arrange the pickup for your regular collection day, describing each item and whether it can be handled by a two-person crew.

Items must be set out as arranged and nothing is collected outside a container without that arrangement. A job needing more than two people is handled with a temporary collection dumpster instead of a bulky pickup.

With a new purchase

Rent a temporary bin or container

A clean-up project or renovation that generates more material than the cleanup campaign or a bulky pickup can take.

Cost & conditions
The hauler page lists the container sizes but publishes no price, so delivery and disposal are quoted when the container is ordered.
Arrange it
Ask the hauler about a three-yard temporary bin measuring four feet high by four feet wide by six feet nine inches long, or a larger container between ten and forty yards for clean-up projects and other disposal needs.

Container service is a paid arrangement outside the residential allowance, and the company decides what material it will accept in each container.
