The local disposal guide
Yuma collects its own residential waste. The Solid Waste Division issues one 90-gallon garbage container and one 90-gallon recycling container per home, runs neighborhood trash routes on Mondays and Tuesdays and recycling routes on Thursdays and Fridays, and keeps bulky items off the regular truck. Large household items go out with the Neighborhood Cleanup, an annual program that works through the city one area at a time and takes furniture, mattresses, carpet, appliances, electronics, tires without rims and bagged lawn clippings from residents who pay the Environmental Fee. Household hazardous waste and electronic waste are handled at three collection events a year at the Public Works facility on South 2nd Avenue. Renovation material is refused by every city route, so a construction load needs a private or self-hauled option.

The handoff matters
Everything for the Neighborhood Cleanup goes at the curb. Do not block the sidewalk or set items near the trash containers, and do not use the alley unless the home faces Avenue A. Keep anything you want to keep away from the curb, because the pile is collected as it sits.
Neighborhood Cleanup page with the accepted bulk item list, the Environmental Fee eligibility, the area schedule, the curbside rules and the unacceptable itemsThe city sends different crews for different materials, so appliances, tires, tree branches and limbs, and miscellaneous items each go in their own pile. Loose items must be bagged and light enough for two people to handle, staying under 50 pounds, and tree limbs must be under four feet, tied in bundles that also stay under 50 pounds.
