The local disposal guide
Sierra Vista collects its own trash twice a week and handles the big items through a paid special pickup rather than a free bulky week. A special pickup sticker covers one load of bulky or bagged material inside a published size limit, and the City asks for a separate sticker on each large item. Everything else has a route of its own: electronics, construction debris, paint, batteries, metal and tires go to the Cochise County transfer station on Highway 90, a refrigerator or freezer needs the Freon pulled by a certified professional before the sticker is sold, and green waste goes to the City compost facility or out with the free curbside green waste pickup for sanitation customers.

Furniture and other bulky items move on a paid special pickup, bought with a sticker that covers one load, and a separate sticker is required for each large item.
An appliance moves on the same paid special pickup as other bulky items, and a refrigerator or freezer needs the Freon removed by a certified professional before the pickup can be scheduled.
The City has no electronics collection of its own and sends residents to drop-off points around town, where a television or monitor can carry a deposit charge at the retailer.
Construction debris is not part of the City's residential collection, and it moves either into a rented dumpster or to the Cochise County transfer station on Highway 90.
Exercise equipment is not named in the City's pickup rules, so a treadmill or elliptical should be confirmed before a sticker is bought.
The handoff matters
The bin goes out by 7:00 a.m. with the handle toward the home, twice a week on either Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday, and it stays at least 6 feet from vehicles, mailboxes, fences and basketball hoops. Bag the trash, close the lid, and keep extra trash off the top of and beside the bin.
Residential trash rates, twice weekly collection, bin rules and prohibited itemsA special pickup load stays inside 4 by 6 by 3 feet or a 2.5 cubic yard limit and sits within 3 feet of the sidewalk, never on the sidewalk or in the roadway. Each large item needs its own sticker, placed where a driver can see it from the street.
Special pickup sticker price, load limits, placement and Freon requirementA refrigerator or freezer cannot be scheduled until the Freon has been removed by a Section 608 certified professional. Once that is done, buy the sticker and call Public Works at (520) 458-5775 so the item is added to the next available pickup list.

Buy a Special Pickup sticker at City Hall, the Pedro Castro Maintenance Center, the Oscar Yrun Community Center or The Cove, then call Public Works at (520) 458-5775 to be added to the next available pickup list. The sticker covers one load, and a separate sticker is required for each large item.Official guidance
Special pickups are limited to bulky items or items that are bagged or bundled, no larger than 4 by 6 by 3 feet or a 2.5 cubic yard load. Set the material within 3 feet of the sidewalk, never on the sidewalk or in the roadway, and call Public Works if you are unsure how many stickers a pile needs.Official guidance
The City describes the special pickup route as bulky items and does not publish an item list, so a couch, a mattress or a similar large household item goes out on a sticker pickup while it fits the load limit. Call Public Works at (520) 458-5775 if you want the item confirmed before you buy the sticker.Official guidance
Yes, on the special pickup route, but the City requires any Freon to be removed by a Section 608 certified professional before the pickup is scheduled. Once that is done, buy a Special Pickup sticker and call Public Works at (520) 458-5775 to join the pickup list.Official guidance
The City asks for a separate sticker for each large item, so one appliance takes its own sticker even when other material goes out at the same time. The sticker has to be visible from the street, either on the item or on top of the pile.Official guidance
The City's drop-off directory lists the Best Buy at 2200 El Mercado Loop, which takes telephones, computer equipment, televisions and monitors and most other electronics, and the Cochise County transfer station at 7201 Highway 90 also appears on the list for e-waste. Televisions and monitors 25 inches or larger carry a deposit charge at the retailer and no batteries are accepted.Official guidance
No. The City asks residents to keep prohibited material out of the bin and use an approved disposal site, and electronics are not part of the special pickup route either. Use one of the drop-off points in the City directory instead.Official guidance
The City's residential collection does not take it. Debris goes into a rented dumpster, with a three cubic yard container offered to residents and larger containers or a roll-off offered to commercial customers, or it is hauled to the Cochise County transfer station at 7201 Highway 90, which appears in the City directory under construction debris.Official guidance
No. The City compost facility accepts green waste only and states that trash, food waste, dirt, rocks, tree stumps, palm leaves, lumber, metal and construction and demolition waste cannot be accepted there, because those materials are prohibited in compost facilities.Official guidance
The City's Public Works Department collects residential trash twice a week, on either Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday, for addresses inside the city limits and at Fort Huachuca. City Ordinance requires sanitation service at residential properties, and trash and sewer are billed together every other month.Official guidance
Public Works at (520) 458-5775 answers trash, bulky item and green waste questions. Special pickups, bin problems and the dumpster rental program all go through the same number, and dumpster rental requests can also go to Utilities@SierraVistaAZ.gov or (520) 458-3315.Official guidance
No. The City ended curbside recycling in 2019 when global demand for recyclable materials fell, and it points residents to drop-off locations around the city instead. The City still runs its compost program, Christmas tree recycling, fats, oils and grease recycling and household hazardous waste disposal events.Official guidance
City sanitation customers in good standing get a free curbside green waste pickup, scheduled through Public Works at (520) 458-5775 with requests in by 4:00 p.m. Monday for the following Wednesday. Green waste can also go to the City compost facility on Highway 90, where a sanitation customer with a current bill drops it free and the facility refuses lumber, metal, dirt, rocks, stumps and construction debris.Official guidance
