The included appointment covers up to five cubic yards, which is about a pickup bed loaded to the top of the cab. A second appointment inside the same 12 months, or a pile above five cubic yards, is charged at current rates, and dropping furniture at a county facility instead is charged as a household load because furniture is not on the free drop-off list. The local disposal guide
Antelope is an unincorporated part of Sacramento County, so the county's waste division runs the residential carts, the bulky waste appointment and the two drop-off facilities that serve this address. A household on the county service gets one bulky waste appointment every 12 months included, covering up to five cubic yards, which is about a pickup bed loaded to the top of the cab, and that is where a couch, a mattress or a treadmill goes when it does not fit a cart. Appliances, electronics, tires and fluorescent tubes have to be flagged when the appointment is booked and set to one side of the pile. The drop-off sites carry the rest: a mattress, an appliance or a television is free at the North Area Recovery Station in North Highlands or Kiefer Landfill in Sloughhouse when the load holds only free items, clean concrete and bricks are free at Kiefer, and household chemicals are free at the hazardous waste facility on the Roseville Road site within a monthly limit.

E-waste is a special set-out item for the bulky pickup, so the load has to be flagged when the appointment is booked and smaller devices go together in a cardboard box. Televisions, monitors, computers, phones, printers and the rest of the county's e-waste list are also free to drop at either county facility for residents, and none of it may go in a cart.
Clean lumber and trimmings go out with the bulky pickup when they are no wider than four inches and no longer than five feet, but concrete, dirt, rocks, bricks, tree stumps and treated wood are refused there. Those loads go to the county facilities: Kiefer takes clean concrete, asphalt, tile, brick, rocks and stucco free when there is no rebar and no piece larger than 36 inches, only Kiefer takes treated wood, and a mixed renovation load is weighed at either site. A contractor can also use one of the county certified construction sorting facilities.
Exercise equipment is not named in the county's bulky waste categories or its free drop-off list, so the machine has to be confirmed rather than assumed. A machine that fits the five cubic yard pile can be booked with the annual appointment, and a metal framed machine may qualify as clean metal at the free drop-off, where the load has to hold only free items.

Household chemicals never go in a cart. Sacramento County runs a hazardous waste drop-off at the North Area Recovery Station on Roseville Road, free to residents within a monthly limit, and it takes what a cart cannot: paint and thinners, motor oil and filters, antifreeze, batteries, gasoline, pesticides, pool chemicals, cleaners, aerosols, propane tanks, fluorescent tubes and ballasts and home-generated sharps in a sealed hard container.
The handoff matters
Carts are collected on the regular day including holidays, and they go to the curb by 6 a.m. with the handle facing the residence and the lid closed. Leave three feet between carts, six feet from cars, mailboxes and basketball hoops, and 14.5 feet of overhead clearance from limbs, wires and awnings, keep items out of and off the top of the cart, and bring the carts back onto the property within 24 hours of service under county code 6.20.400.C.

Keep it clear of sidewalks, traffic and gutters, six feet from fences, mailboxes, cars and hoops, and out from under utility lines and tree limbs. Appliances, electronics, tires and fluorescent tubes are placed to one side of the pile, and only the scheduled items are collected.

Sacramento County's Department of Waste Management and Recycling runs the residential carts, the bulky waste appointments and the two drop-off facilities for residents in the unincorporated areas of the county. Multifamily apartment complexes, condos, mobile home parks and multiplexes are served by commercial franchised haulers instead, so a household in one of those buildings should ask the property manager.
