The local disposal guide
Rancho Cordova franchised its residential collection to Atlas Disposal, and every residential home gets up to three free bulky item pickups a year for a pile of no more than 10 cubic yards. Appliances, furniture, mattresses bagged only, electronics, televisions, tires, untreated wood and clean green waste are on the acceptable list, while construction material, batteries, propane tanks, steel pipes and hazardous waste are refused. Mattresses, large appliances, electronics and tires are also free drop-off items at the two Sacramento County transfer sites.

The handoff matters
A bulky pile must not exceed 10 cubic yards, about 10 by 7 by 4 feet, and it goes out by 6 a.m. on the scheduled collection day and no sooner than 24 hours before. Keep the pile six feet from vehicles and three feet from carts, out of the gutter, and clear of the sidewalk, driveway and road, and bag leaves and grass clippings.
