Choose by construction, not height alone. A basic desk is different from a heavy desk with a substantial body. A tall, lightweight bookcase can still be a standard bookshelf. Empty it first.

Furniture is named in the bulky item pickup that Antioch residents get twice a year at no charge through the franchised hauler, so a couch is scheduled for a curbside collection rather than left out with the carts.

Get it ready
Keep the piece out of the landfill, recycle and organics carts, because the carts are only for weekly household material. Set the furniture at the curb for the scheduled pickup and keep it clear of the carts on collection day.
Place carts out by 6 a.m. or the night before the collection day, next to the curb and at least three feet away from other carts and vehicles. The cart weight limit is 150 pounds, lids have to be completely closed, and a resident may be charged for extra material that overflows. Recycling and organics go in loose, with food scraps only in paper or BPI-certified compostable bags.
The large item pickup is not a standing collection day. Residents get two of them free each year and have to arrange each one in advance through customer service or the online account tools, then put the item at the curb on the confirmed day. Extra pickups within the same year are collected for a fee.
