The local disposal guide
Antioch runs a mandatory curbside program through its franchised hauler, Republic Services of Contra Costa County. A household gets three carts, landfill, recycle and organics, collected weekly, and the city code requires collection at least every seven days. Big items do not wait for a truck at all: residents may schedule two free large item pickups a year for appliances, furniture, mattresses, tires and electronics, and two free on-call cleanups a year for extra household trash, with three more free cleanups available for extra recycling and green waste. Household hazardous waste, including paint, oil, batteries, fluorescent bulbs and electronic waste, goes to the Delta Diablo collection facility in the East Contra Costa system, free with proof of residency. Construction and demolition material has no curbside route and needs a private container.

Antioch residents have two routes for electronics. Televisions, computer monitors and other devices can be picked up at the curb as a bulky item, or taken free of charge to the Delta household hazardous waste facility, which takes CRT as well as flat panel sets.
No curbside route takes construction or demolition material. The large item pickup list covers appliances, furniture, mattresses, tires and electronics only, and the city treats the three household carts as separate streams for household material.
Exercise equipment is not named among the appliances, furniture, mattresses, tires and electronics on the large item list, so a treadmill or weight machine has to be confirmed before it goes to the curb.

Place carts out by 6 a.m. or the night before the collection day, next to the curb and at least three feet away from other carts and vehicles. The cart weight limit is 150 pounds, lids have to be completely closed, and a resident may be charged for extra material that overflows. Recycling and organics go in loose, with food scraps only in paper or BPI-certified compostable bags.
