Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics have two Brentwood routes: the free cleanup events take computers, televisions and other electronic waste in the household load as long as batteries come out first, and the city treats electronic waste as part of the hazardous waste stream that goes to Delta Diablo for free.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free at a Neighborhood Cleanup Event for a household with an active garbage account, and free to East Contra Costa County residents through the Delta Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility and its annual Saturday events, with a valid driver's licence at the events.
When & how
Register for a cleanup event before registration closes, or take the devices to the Delta Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility at 2550 Pittsburg-Antioch Hwy in Pittsburg, and note the annual east county events: the second Saturday of May in Oakley, the third Saturday of June in Discovery Bay and the second Saturday of October at the Brentwood Transfer Station, 2301 Elkins Way, all from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Get it ready
Remove batteries from computers, televisions, appliances and battery-powered toys before the load goes in, because the city asks for that on both the cleanup page and the extra pickup page, and wipe personal data from a computer before handover. Never put electronics in the garbage or organics carts, and keep them out of the recycling stream unless the item is on the city's mixed recycling list.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Carts out by 5 a.m., three feet apart, lids closed

Set carts at the curb the night before or by 5 a.m. on the collection day, with the lid opening facing the street and the wheels against the curb, three feet apart and at least six feet from vehicles, mailboxes, light posts and basketball hoops. Lids have to close, because an open lid means the cart is not serviced and a return trip carries an extra fee, and residents are asked to stay 15 feet back from a working truck.

A cleanup event needs an online registration with the utility account number

Register online with the City of Brentwood utility billing account number and pick one of the pre-scheduled dates and times, because registration closes when the event is full or two days before it, whichever comes first, and a permit caps the site at 700 vehicles a day. A household may register for one spring event and one fall event, and each registration covers up to two cubic yards of household material.

Load the vehicle in the order the event unloads

Wood and tires unload at the last stop, so load them first: wood must be unpainted and untreated and a household may bring up to four tires. Then load e-waste such as computers, televisions and appliances with the batteries removed, then mattresses, which unload at the back of the site, then yard waste such as branches, leaves and grass clippings, then scrap metal, and finally general household waste, with batteries taken out of battery-powered items first.

Only Christmas and New Year's Day move a Brentwood collection day

Christmas Day and New Year's Day are the only two holidays that affect garbage service, and when one of them falls on a weekday the collection runs one day later for that week only. A holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday changes nothing, and every other holiday keeps the regular schedule.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Brentwood runs its own solid waste division, so the routes start with the city rather than a hauler. A household with an active garbage account registers online for one spring and one fall Neighborhood Cleanup Event, brings up to two cubic yards of household material to the Brentwood Transfer Station at 2301 Elkins Way, and pays nothing, with wood and tires unloaded at the last stop, up to four tires per household and wood kept unpainted and untreated. Anything between events is an extra pickup booked with the Solid Waste Division at (925) 516-6090 or through a Service Request, and the city says a fee applies without publishing the amount. Household chemicals and electronics go to the Delta Household Hazardous Waste program, which is free for east Contra Costa County residents at the Pittsburg facility on Pittsburg-Antioch Highway and at three Saturday events a year, the October one at the Brentwood Transfer Station. For a load the city does not take, the garbage page lists two public disposal facilities open year-round, the Vasco Road Landfill in Livermore and the Pittsburg Transfer Station on Loveridge Road, both of which take most types of household refuse at an unpublished rate, and a construction project over the city's thresholds has to file a Waste Management Plan through Green Halo with at least 50 percent diversion. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Brentwood.

How much does TV removal cost in Brentwood?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Brentwood?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where do Brentwood televisions and computers go?

To a Neighborhood Cleanup Event, where computers, televisions and other electronic waste are part of the free two cubic yard household load with the batteries removed, or to the Delta Household Hazardous Waste program, which is free to east county residents at its Pittsburg facility and at three Saturday events a year, including one at the Brentwood Transfer Station on the second Saturday of October.Official guidance

Who collects garbage in Brentwood?

The City of Brentwood itself: the Solid Waste Division has run collection since 1994, so cart questions, extra pickups and service changes all go to (925) 516-6090 rather than a private hauler. City Hall is at 150 City Park Way and is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and the carts remain City property.Official guidance

How do the Brentwood cleanup events work?

Register online with a City of Brentwood utility billing account number and choose a date and time, because registration closes when the event fills or two days ahead, whichever comes first, and a permit caps the site at 700 vehicles a day. A household gets one spring and one fall registration, each covering up to two cubic yards of household material, and everything is unloaded at the Brentwood Transfer Station on Elkins Way.Official guidance

Where do Brentwood households take paint, oil and batteries?

To the Delta Household Hazardous Waste program, which is free for East Contra Costa County residents. The year-round facility is at 2550 Pittsburg-Antioch Hwy in Pittsburg, and there are three Saturday events each year, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in May at Oakley City Hall, in June at Discovery Bay Elementary School and in October at the Brentwood Transfer Station on Elkins Way. Bring a valid driver's licence to an event.Official guidance
