Get it ready
Keep the appliance out of every container and out of the free on-call pile, because electronics and small appliances as well as bulk items and furniture are unacceptable in all containers.
The free on-call pickup takes bagged household garbage and yard waste only: up to twelve 32 gallon bags of no more than 50 pounds each, with branches tied in a bundle no larger than 18 inches by 3 feet. Each pickup must be one week apart and on the regular collection day.
Keep bulky, hazardous and building material out of the containers
Tires, automotive parts and fluids, batteries of any type, bricks, stones, gravel, concrete and other building materials, electronics and small appliances, bulk items and furniture, fluorescent tubes, gas and propane tanks, hazardous material such as paints and treated wood, and medical or special waste are all unacceptable in every collection container. Furniture, appliances and large items need a special pickup, mattresses go to the hauler's Pittsburg processing facility for a fee, and hazardous material goes to the Central San facility in Martinez. Household batteries and compact fluorescent bulbs can be scheduled in advance with the hauler and set in a clear plastic bag beside the garbage cart.
