A large item pickup is made by a separate truck from the weekly trash collection, and CR&R collects only the items the resident listed when the appointment was booked. The resident calls (949) 646-4617 from Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. or files an online request, names each item, and receives a date that may be a week or more out.
The size caps and the refused list decide what can go out
No item may exceed 8 by 4 feet or 150 pounds, which the district describes as the limit of what two people can lift, and asphalt, building materials, car bodies, chemicals and hazardous waste, concrete, sand or sandbags, soil and tires are all refused. Glass is accepted only when tape is applied in a star shape so it does not break, and yard debris has to be contained and limited to one cubic yard.
Hazardous waste goes out at the front of the house
The household hazardous waste collection is door to door. After CR&R confirms the quantity and types and sets a date, the resident bags or containers the material as the hauler directs and places it in front of the house by 6:00 a.m. on the collection day, and does not need to be home. Each pickup is limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds and a household gets up to three a year.
