A single-family household can book up to three Bulky Waste Pickup appointments a calendar year, with up to five cubic yards of material in each appointment, collected from the edge of the street.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Three bulky waste appointments a calendar year are included for a single-family residence whose solid waste account is current. The City's rate table states the residential collection rate already includes bulky waste service and household hazardous waste collection, and apartment residents and businesses are told to call the office for their options.
When & how
Book online or at 916-461-6730. Materials go out by 6 a.m. on the appointment day and no earlier than 24 hours before it, because an earlier pile is subject to a code violation. Yard waste and wood are kept separate from metals and appliances because separate vehicles collect them, and a cancellation has to reach the office by 1 p.m. the business day before the appointment.
Get it ready
Put the pile on the edge of the street rather than on the property, keep it out of the regular cans, make sure glass is visible to the driver as it approaches, and expect the whole pile to be disposed of, so do not set out anything in a container or under a tarp that has to be kept. No alley pickups are made.
Metals and appliances including microwaves are on the acceptable bulky waste list, a lawnmower is accepted with the gas and oil removed, and a county site takes up to two large appliances a day from residents at no charge.

No charge. An appliance goes out on one of the three bulky waste appointments included each calendar year, and the county free residential drop off takes up to two large appliances a day. A third appliance on the same day is charged 35.00 each, and the county weighs and charges loads that include other material.
When & how
Book the bulky appointment at 916-461-6730, or take the appliance to a county site during opening hours. County facilities ask for arrival at least 15 minutes before closing.
Get it ready
Remove gas and oil from a lawnmower and keep a propane tank off a barbecue before either goes on a pile. Empty the appliance and keep it out of the regular cans. Any battery built into an item has to go to an electronic waste program instead of to a county tipping area.
A bulky waste pile only goes out for a booked appointment, and it goes on the edge of the street rather than on the property. It has to be out by 6 a.m. on the appointment day and not before the 24 hour mark, because an earlier pile is subject to a code violation. No alley pickups are made.
Keep the streams apart at the curb and in the pile
Food scraps and food-soiled paper go into the green organics can inside a clear plastic or compostable bag, and recyclables go loose in the blue can. On a bulky pile, yard waste and wood stay separate from metals and appliances because different vehicles collect each group, so one visit may not clear the whole pile.

Drive the load to Kiefer Landfill at 12701 Kiefer Blvd. in Sloughhouse or the North Area Recovery Station at 4450 Roseville Road in North Highlands during opening hours, arriving at least 15 minutes before closing, with the load covered or secured.
A load that includes any other material is weighed and charged, a third appliance in a day is charged separately, and household hazardous waste is limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds a month without charge.
Household waste, recyclables and hard to handle material from the public, businesses and private haulers. Free to residents when the load contains only free items: mattresses and box springs, up to two large appliances a day, electronic waste including televisions, monitors, computers, printers and stereos, up to four passenger vehicle or light truck tires with rims, clean metals eight feet or shorter, and clean inerts such as brick, concrete without rebar up to 36 inches, asphalt, tile, rocks and stucco.
Customers do not have to be Sacramento County residents, but every load has to be covered or secured. Fluids and removable batteries come out first, and anything with a built-in battery goes to an electronic waste program only. Household hazardous waste is limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds a month, treated wood is taken at Kiefer only, green waste and clean wood have to be separated and unbagged, and the third large appliance in a day is charged along with passenger tires from the fifth on. Arrive at least 15 minutes before closing, and expect the facility to close early if the daily vehicle limit is reached.

From $10 for a car, station wagon or small SUV load at the scale house. Effective January 1, 2026, small vans and large SUVs are $20.00, pickup trucks $35.00 and large vans $45.00, with $25.00 added for an uncovered or unsecured load. Weighed loads start at a $45.00 minimum and run $61.35 per ton for normal refuse, $115.65 per ton for green waste and clean wood, $144.90 per ton for hard to handle bulky material and $28.45 per ton for mixed inerts. Cash, credit cards and checks are accepted.
Household waste, some recyclable material and some hard to handle material from the public, businesses and private haulers, with a household hazardous waste facility on site that keeps different hours. The county free residential drop off list applies here as well, apart from the clean inerts that only Kiefer takes.
Loads have to be covered or secured and the tarp stays on until the tipping area to prevent littering. Green waste and clean wood have to be separated from other material and dropped in the green waste area, unbagged and without treated, painted or stained wood, because only Kiefer accepts treated wood. Material with a built-in battery goes to an electronic waste program, and fluids and removable batteries come out before the load arrives.

Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.
Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?+
Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Use a qualified professional for gas, hardwired or plumbing connections when needed. We handle loading and haul-away from the outdoor pickup spot.
Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?+
Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.

How do I set out a bulky waste pile?+
The pile goes on the edge of the street, not on the property, and it has to be out by 6 a.m. on the appointment day. Yes. The city's rate table states that the residential collection rates include the garbage, recycling and organics cans along with household hazardous waste collection and bulky waste service, and it lists a separate SB 1383 charge for all residential accounts. Do apartments and businesses get the same bulky service?+
The bulky waste appointment allowance is written for single-family residential customers, and the city tells apartment residents and business locations to call the office at 916-461-6730 for their options. How does the household hazardous waste pickup work?+
Book a Door 2 Door pickup online or at 916-461-6730 for a Monday, Wednesday or Friday, and leave the material at the bottom of the driveway rather than next to the house, on the sidewalk, in the parkway or in the street. Per pickup limits are five gallons of antifreeze, five gallons of used motor oil, ten one-gallon cans and two five-gallon pails of paint, with other household hazardous waste not over five gallons or 50 pounds plus 125 pounds of universal waste.Official guidance
Where does cardboard go now?+
Cardboard is no longer accepted in the bulky waste program. Flatten clean cardboard and take it to one of the community recycling bins, which the city lists at the Andy Morin Sports Complex with 24 hour access and at Folsom City Hall, Folsom Middle School and the Folsom Historic District. Will Folsom take tires with bulky waste?+
