The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Huntington Beach collects trash, recycling and organics through Republic Services, formerly Rainbow Disposal, and every home and business has to carry the service. Big items move on the hauler's scheduled bulk item pickup rather than a city collection, self-haul loads go to the transfer station public dump on Nichols Lane, and electronics go free to the Orange County household hazardous waste center at the same address.

Republic Services Transfer Station

17121 Nichols Lane, Gate 4, Huntington Beach, CA 92647

Self-haul loads of construction and demolition debris, landscape debris and other trash, plus single items such as mattresses, box springs and tires that are priced in the published weight bands.

Every load is weighed and charged at the scale house before unloading. The published sheet names mattresses and tires as single items, so confirm a cooling appliance before hauling one in. The city lists the public dump gate as Gate 4 while the hauler lists its scale house at Gate 5, so follow the posted signs at the entrance.

Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the hauler's scale house, while the City lists Saturday opening at 6 a.m., so confirm the opening before a Saturday trip. Closed Sunday and on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

From $78.63 per single item under 500 pounds. Self-haul customers at the Huntington Beach Transfer Station public dump. The published sheet is effective July 1, 2026, and material rated by weight carries a 1 ton minimum.
