Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?
Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.
An exercise bike, elliptical or rower
Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.
Weights, racks and benches
Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Exercise equipment is not named among the furniture, appliances, electronic equipment and similar items the city lists for bulky waste, so a treadmill or weight machine has to be confirmed before it goes to the curb.
City cost & eligibility
No published bulky item list or exercise equipment rule exists, so confirm the machine with Waste Management at 949-642-1191 when the free bulky collection is scheduled.
When & how
Call the hauler before the trash day to confirm the machine, then schedule the bulky collection at least 48 hours ahead if it is accepted.
Get it ready
Describe the machine and its size when you call, remove the console or battery pack so the electronics route is separate, and keep the frame clear of the street and sidewalk until collection day.
Every Mission Viejo household runs a black-lid landfill cart, a blue-lid mixed recyclables cart and a green-lid organics cart, in 35, 64 or 96 gallons. Recycling takes paper, metal, glass and plastics; organics takes food scraps, yard trimmings and non-hazardous wood waste; and the landfill cart takes what is neither, such as polystyrene foam, plastic film, plastic utensils, soiled or wax-coated cups, pet waste, diapers and garden hoses. Recycling and organics carts carry no extra charge, while an additional trash cart does.
Five large items, three times a year, on the trash day
Bulky collection happens on the regular trash collection day and costs nothing, with up to five large items allowed three times a year. Furniture, appliances, electronic equipment and similar items qualify, while car bodies and construction and demolition waste do not. The pickup has to be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance through Waste Management.

Which option covers a Peloton, spin bike or recumbent bike?+
Choose Exercise bike for one stationary bike, including spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes. Peloton and other brands use the same stationary-bike choice. A treadmill, walking pad and outdoor bicycle are different items, so select their matching options.
How do I book free weights, a weight rack or a bench?+
Enter the combined weight in pounds for your dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Booking rounds that total up to the next 10 lb unit: 25 lb uses three units. Stands, racks and benches are separate items and do not include the loose weights. Add each one that is going.
