When & how
Book the bulky pickup with your hauler, Gilton Solid Waste or Bertolotti Disposal, and set it out no earlier than 6:00 PM the evening before the appointment. The drop-off site is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays except holidays from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Get it ready
For the drop-off site, keep the mattress, box spring or futon dry and free of bedbugs, and leave out heavily soiled mattresses, upholstery materials, camping beds, car beds, mattress pads and crib cushions. For a curbside pickup, keep the mattress in the street against the curb in front of your own home without blocking sidewalks, driveways, hydrants or storm drains.
Bulky items go in the street against the curb in front of the resident's own home, never in the alley. The pile must not block sidewalks, driveways, fire hydrants, storm drains or garbage cans, small items belong in the garbage container rather than the pile, and nothing is set out before 6:00 PM the evening before the scheduled appointment.

Contact your hauler, Gilton Solid Waste or Bertolotti Disposal, to set the collection appointment, and put the items in the street against the curb in front of your home no earlier than 6:00 PM the evening before.
Two pickups a calendar year, nothing collected in the alley, and the unacceptable list applies: concrete, asphalt, construction and demolition debris, wood, yard waste, household garbage, liquids, paints, solvents, plate glass, televisions, computer monitors, tires and automobile parts are all refused.

Use a haul-it-yourself voucher
Modesto households that would rather take their own truck or trailer load to the solid waste provider's transfer station than wait for a curbside appointment.
Cost & conditions
No charge. Modesto single family residential solid waste customers, with two haul-it-yourself vouchers per calendar year.
Arrange it
Request the voucher from your solid waste company, collect it at the transfer station, and use it within seven days. Multi-family residents request the voucher through the property manager or owner.
One load per voucher, no larger than four feet by four feet by eight feet, two vouchers a calendar year, and the same acceptable and unacceptable item lists apply, so construction debris, liquids, paints, tires and televisions stay out.
