The local disposal guide
Ontario runs its own Integrated Waste Department out of Public Works on South Bon View Avenue, so the city itself answers for carts, bulky items and the household hazardous waste site. Residents get four free bulky item collections a calendar year, each limited to five large items, and the acceptable list covers furniture and mattresses, appliances and water heaters, bundled or bagged green waste, electronic waste such as televisions, computers and stereo equipment, and carpet. The city also holds four community cleanup events a year at the Public Works yard, where residents can add passenger tires, scrap metal and wood waste to the load. Apartment and condominium residents arrange their bulky collection through their property manager, businesses pay a fee for bulky service and cannot use the cleanup events, and everything hazardous, from paint and oil to batteries, bulbs, sharps and electronic waste, goes free of charge to the city household hazardous waste facility on South Cucamonga Avenue on Fridays and Saturdays.

Exercise equipment is not named on Ontario's bulky list or at the household hazardous waste facility, so the route has to be confirmed with the city before the machine goes out.
Construction and demolition material is not on Ontario's bulky item list and no city construction route is published, so a renovation load has to be arranged privately. Wood waste is the one piece accepted, and only at the community cleanup events.
The city runs a free household hazardous waste facility at 1430 S. Cucamonga Avenue, open Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., for residents only. It takes hazardous chemicals, electronic waste, universal waste and medications that are not controlled substances.
The handoff matters
Ontario bulky items are collected by appointment, and a single-family residence may schedule up to four a calendar year with no more than five large items in each. The city publishes two scheduling lines, (909) 395-2050 on the bulky item page and (909) 395-2800 on the Integrated Waste page. Apartment and condominium residents book through their property manager, and businesses pay a fee instead of using the residential allowance.

Besides the usual bulky material, the events take passenger car tires up to a maximum of four, scrap metal and wood waste including lumber, and about 70 per cent of what they collect is recycled. They are open to Ontario residents only.

The recycling hotline is (909) 395-2040, abandoned items on roadways are reported to Debris Removal at (909) 395-2639, and businesses needing hazardous waste service contact San Bernardino County at (909) 382-5401.Official guidance
Yes. Since January 1, 2022 SB 1383 has applied to all Ontario residents, single-family homes and apartments or condominiums alike, and the existing green waste bin also collects food waste. Bulky collections for residents remain free within the four appointment allowance.Official guidance
