Boulder has no citywide bulky item pickup. An oversized household item goes to the hard-to-recycle site, to a reuse donation, or onto a large item collection arranged with the hauler on the account for a fee the hauler sets.
City cost & eligibility
There is no municipal bulky program and no published municipal rate. The Eco-Cycle hard-to-recycle site publishes per item charges for the materials it takes, and a hauler's own large item collection is priced by that hauler, so ask the hauler and the facility before anything is set out.

Ask the hauler how it handles a large item and when it would collect, or plan a trip to the hard-to-recycle site or the reuse center during their open hours.
Get it ready
Keep the item on the property until a collection is arranged, and check the material rules first: the hard-to-recycle site refuses pressurized vessels such as propane and helium tanks, requires gas powered equipment to be drained of oil and gas, and refuses bedding that is moldy or has bed bugs. Usable furniture and appliances are better donated for reuse than sent for recycling.
A metal appliance that is at least half metal and free of refrigerant goes to the hard-to-recycle site covered by its facility fee, while a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner carries a published per unit charge.
City cost & eligibility
From $3 for the facility fee charged for each vehicle entering the hard-to-recycle site. A refrigerant appliance such as a refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner or dehumidifier is charged 45.00 each on top of the facility fee, while scrap metal items that are at least 50 percent metal and contain no refrigerant are covered by the facility fee alone. The county directory also lists Western Disposal as accepting large appliances and Resource Central as taking large appliances in good condition, and neither publishes a price, so ask before hauling.

Take the appliance to 6400 Arapahoe Rd. Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., or ask Resource Central about a reuse donation of a working unit.
Get it ready
Remove the glass plate from a microwave before recycling it, because the hard-to-recycle site cannot process the glass. Water heaters, stoves, ovens, washing machines, dryers and dishwashers count as scrap metal when they are at least half metal and free of refrigerant, and pressurized vessels such as propane or helium tanks are refused even when empty.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

From $3 for the facility fee charged for each vehicle entering the site. The facility fee is charged once per vehicle and is waived for customers arriving by bicycle. Item charges apply on top of it: 45.00 for a refrigerant appliance, 30.00 for a mattress or box spring, 10.00 for a mattress topper, with screens and miscellaneous electronics charged by weight, concrete and ceramics at 0.10 per pound, and a toilet, sink or urinal at 5.00 without fixtures or 25.00 with them. Computers, phones, scrap metal that is at least half metal and free of refrigerant, books, clothing, cardboard, film plastics and glassware are covered by the facility fee.

Drive to 6400 Arapahoe Rd. Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. No appointment is needed: stop at the window, tell the register team what you brought, pay the fees and follow the blue signs through the zones.
The site is closed Sunday, refuses automotive tires, propane, helium and other pressurized tanks even when empty, moldy or bed bug infested bedding, items with food or liquid residue, biohazards and loose glass components, and requires gas powered equipment to arrive drained of oil and gas. No charge. There is no charge to donate material that is in good condition for resale. The reuse center can also collect material from a property, and the county directory notes that a pickup may be free or may carry a charge, so ask when the pickup is arranged.

The reuse center takes new and used building and household materials that are in good condition, so a worn out piece will not be accepted and has to be priced with a hauler as a large item instead. Large appliances are accepted for reuse only when they still work.

Call the hauler on the account and ask how it handles a large item, then set the piece out only for the date the hauler gives you.
Not every hauler offers the same large item service, and the city does not run a municipal pickup of its own. Anything usable should go to the reuse center first, and a mattress, appliance or electronic device has a cheaper documented drop off route at the hard-to-recycle site.

Can you take a washing machine and dryer in one pickup?+
Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.
Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?+
Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Use a qualified professional for gas, hardwired or plumbing connections when needed. We handle loading and haul-away from the outdoor pickup spot.
Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?+
Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.

What does my apartment building have to provide?+
The Universal Zero Waste Ordinance requires property owners to provide adequate compost, recycling and trash collection to tenants, and the city offers multi-family complexes free signs, installation and education programs.
