The route that matters for a clear-out is the Transfer Station at 475 Asylum Street, which is free to City residents with identification, open six days a week, and takes mattresses, furniture, appliances, separated metals, up to two tires, waste oil and antifreeze. It is a strict facility. Mattresses and wood doors have to be cut in half, everything in the load has to be covered and secured, and construction debris, cabinets, concrete, paint, sheetrock, shingles, siding, toilets and sinks are refused and pushed to two private transfer facilities in Stratford and Milford.
