Venice publishes furniture and larger items as a quoted bulk charge and does not name mattresses, while the county landfill charges by weight with a current fifteen dollar minimum on a garbage load. Call 941-486-2422 for the city quote or plan on the landfill tipping fee for a self-haul.

Book a city bulk appointment for curbside collection, or take the mattress to the Central County Solid Waste Disposal Complex at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry, put it at the curb for a city pickup rather than on the property, and bring government photo identification and closed-toe shoes to the landfill, which does not accept electronic forms of identification.

The south chemical collection centre at 250 S. Jackson Road takes electronics, paint, batteries, chemicals, fluorescent lamps, sharps and used motor oil from county residents free of charge, Monday to Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Self-hauled garbage and construction loads go to the Central County Solid Waste Disposal Complex at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis with photo identification and closed-toe shoes.

Arrange it
Call Public Works for the quote and the collection day, then put the material at the curb by 7 a.m. within three feet of the curb and clear of trees, power lines, mailboxes and sprinkler heads.
City crews will not enter the property for a bulk item, refrigerators and freezers must be emptied with doors removed, and a household without a city account has to prepay.

Cost & conditions
From $15 for the minimum solid waste load fee at the Central County landfill. The landfill lists a current fifteen dollar minimum on a garbage load with $60.85 per ton, a construction and demolition rate of $59.91 per ton with a $19.77 minimum, and a certified scale fee per weigh, with October increases proposed to $16.50 minimum and $63.45 per ton if the county commission approves them.
Arrange it
Drive to 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis during published hours, stop at the scale, and expect construction-related delays while the disposal complex is expanded through 2027.
Only waste generated in Sarasota County is accepted, customers need government photo identification and closed-toe shoes, and electronic identification is refused at the gate.
Sarasota County Central County Solid Waste Disposal Complex

Residential, municipal and commercial garbage from unincorporated Sarasota County and the cities of North Port, Sarasota and Venice, along with construction and demolition debris and yard waste in its own areas.
Only waste generated in Sarasota County is accepted, customers must show government photo identification in person rather than on a phone and wear closed-toe shoes, and customers in sandals or flip-flops may not leave their vehicles in the disposal areas.
