The local disposal guide
Lilburn collects residential garbage and recycling through a city contract with Waste Management, and the fee for the year is billed on the city property tax bill rather than monthly. Every household gets one 95-gallon garbage cart and one recycling cart or bin, and carts go out the evening before the collection day. Large items are not part of the route by default: a household requests up to two bulk items a week through the city service request link, with the request in before 3 p.m. the day before the trash day. Yard waste has its own weekly allowance of ten brown paper bags, and larger limbs and brush go to the city chipper in the third week of each month by request. What the curbside program refuses, including tires, batteries, propane tanks, glass and construction material, has to move through a county drop-off event, a permitted hauler or the hauler's own extra service.

The handoff matters
Carts may go to the curb from 7 p.m. the evening before the scheduled collection day and they have to be off the curb by 7 p.m. on the collection day. Line the cart up with the handle facing the home and the lid opening toward the street so the automated arm can grip it, and leave room around it so a parked car, mailbox or pole does not block the pickup.
