Get it ready
Keep items too large for the cart as the bulk item, and expect a special pickup rather than the standard collection for a piano, a sofa sleeper, a couch with a pull-out bed, a large entertainment center or construction debris. Hazardous items are never accepted as bulk.
A mattress and a box spring each count as one bulk item, and both have to be wrapped in plastic before they are collected.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. One mattress or box spring goes out as the free weekly bulk item. The second piece in the same week is $25.00 prepaid, so a mattress and box spring set normally carries one prepaid charge unless the pieces go out in different weeks.

Electronics, appliances and hazardous waste all need a request first
Nothing from those three streams goes out as a surprise: appliances must be prescheduled with LRS before the service day, electronic waste needs a request at least 48 hours ahead for the first full week of the month, and household hazardous waste is scheduled directly with the resident after a request. Everything else, including the free weekly bulk item, goes out by 6 a.m. on the regular collection day.
