Two bulk items and two cubic yards

Accepted with preparation

Up to two bulk items under 50 pounds each and up to two cubic yards of extra material are included, and anything beyond that is billed by the yard or quoted as a special pickup.

City cost & eligibility
From $12.39 for the published charge per yard for non containerized material pickup, which carries a two yard minimum. The included allowance covers two cubic yards of additional waste that will not fit the cart and up to two bulk items, each under 50 pounds and under two cubic yards. Beyond that, LRS provides service as needed on an agreed per yard basis billed separately, and the village rate table prices non containerized material pickup at 12.39 per yard with a two yard minimum.
When & how
Set the material out on the collection day by 7 a.m., and call LRS at 844-633-3577 when the load is larger than the included allowance so the per yard or special pickup arrangement can be made.
Get it ready
Keep each item under 50 pounds and under two cubic yards, cut carpet and padding into widths no greater than four feet and tie them into rolled bundles under 50 pounds, break window and patio door glass into a box clearly labeled broken glass with the frames disassembled, remove and empty fuel tanks from grills and gas powered equipment and put the empty tanks in the trash separately, and separate two piece toilets into two parts.

Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

A mattress is taken as a bulk item when it is wrapped in plastic, and a queen or king set is split across two weeks.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. A mattress or box spring is collected as one of the two included bulk items at no additional cost when it is wrapped in plastic. A queen or king mattress goes out the first week and its box spring the following week.
When & how
Wrap the mattress in plastic, tape and secure all corners so no part of the mattress is exposed, and place it at the curb on the collection day. A queen or king set goes out across two consecutive weeks.
Get it ready
Use plastic wrap from a grocery, hardware or moving store, and if loose plastic is used it must be completely taped and secured on every corner with no exposure. Mattresses are not part of the recycling stream and should not be placed in a cart.

The handoff matters

Curb by 7 a.m., never before the night window

Carts and material go out no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before pickup from April 1 through September 30 and no earlier than 4 p.m. from October 1 through March 31, and everything has to be at the curb by 7 a.m. on the collection day. Carts belong in the parkway or on a driveway apron, because a cart in the street or bike lane violates the village code.

Prepare the bulky items the way the village lists

Nothing may exceed 50 pounds, carpet is cut into widths no greater than four feet and tied in rolls, window and patio glass is broken into a box labeled broken glass with the frames disassembled, grills and gas equipment are emptied of fuel with the empty tank placed in the trash separately, two piece toilets are separated, and a mattress or box spring is wrapped in plastic with a queen or king set split across two weeks.

Lakeshore Recycling Systems for the Village of Schaumburg, with the village running the electronics and hazardous waste referrals

Use the included bulk allowance

A Schaumburg household with up to two bulky items, such as a couch, a mattress or a couple of chairs, and up to two cubic yards of extra material.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Two cubic yards of additional waste and up to two bulk items are included with the village funded collection at no additional cost, as long as each item is under 50 pounds and under two cubic yards and the load is within Illinois landfill rules and safe for the driver to handle.
Arrange it
Set the items out on the collection day by 7 a.m. with the required preparation, and call LRS at 844-633-3577 if the load exceeds the included allowance.

Anything beyond two items or two cubic yards is billed separately by the yard or quoted as a special pickup, and electronics, televisions, tires, antifreeze, unhardened paint, batteries, pesticides, pressurized tanks, flammable waste, riding lawn mowers, gasoline and snow blowers must not be placed out at all.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Schaumburg pays for its basic refuse and recycling program and LRS runs it: a free garbage cart and recycling cart at every home in three sizes, weekly waste and recycling, and seasonal yard waste from April 1 through the second full week of December. Nothing needs a sticker, material goes out no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before from April through September and 4 p.m. from October through March, and everything is at the curb by 7 a.m. Cleaning out means working inside the included allowance: two cubic yards of extra material and up to two bulk items, each under 50 pounds and under two cubic yards, with mattresses wrapped in plastic and a queen or king set split over two weeks, carpet rolled no wider than four feet, broken glass boxed and labeled, grills emptied of fuel, and toilets separated. Anything bigger is arranged and billed through LRS at 844-633-3577, which also does a separate major appliance collection at 25.81 per appliance. Electronics are illegal in the Illinois trash and get tagged at the curb, so televisions, monitors, computers and microwaves go to a listed local recycler such as Protech Environmental in Elk Grove, where a television or monitor of any size is 20.00 and a microwave is 20.00, while household batteries, cell phones and CFL bulbs go to the village drop boxes at Temporary Village Hall, Engineering and Public Works or the Al Larson Cultural Center. Hazardous products never go in the refuse: paint, gasoline, pesticides, antifreeze and pressurized tanks go to the Naperville household hazardous waste facility at 156 Fort Hill Drive, open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends. Hauler municipality page with the exclusive contract since May 2022, the free carts, the 7 a.m. set out, the two cubic yard and two item bulk allowance, the mattress wrap rule, the appliance service on request, the Christmas tree collection and the yard waste programVillage garbage and recycling page with the weekday collection window, the holiday delay rules, the two item bulk answer and the statement that no stickers are neededVillage garbage detail page with the village funded program, the additional service rate table, the set out windows, the cart and container rules, the remodeling and preparation instructions, the mattress wrap rule and the do not place out listVillage recycling page with the battery, bulb and cell phone drop box locations, the electronics landfill ban and tagging practice, the local electronics recycler table with charges, the holiday light and copper wire program and the household hazardous waste facilities

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Mattress removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Schaumburg.

How much does mattress removal cost in Schaumburg?

The price depends on the mattress size you choose. A queen mattress is $99 as the first item and $30 as an additional item. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Add any box spring or frame separately, then review your total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can I book same-day mattress pickup in Schaumburg?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Have the mattress outside and accessible according to your confirmation. Your booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.

Is my box spring or bed frame included in mattress removal?

The mattress price covers the mattress only. Add your box spring, bed frame or adjustable base separately if those are going too. Choose the size and type that match each item. The combined price appears before booking.

Will you carry my mattress downstairs or out of my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move the mattress out of your apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load it and take it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Check your building’s access rules before arranging the move outside.

Can you pick up my old mattress when my new one arrives?

You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. Dropcurb books a pickup day, not the retailer’s delivery window. Contact us before booking if access is limited to a short time.

How much bulk waste is included?

Two cubic yards of additional waste that will not fit the cart plus up to two bulk items, as long as each item is under 50 pounds and under two cubic yards and the load is safe for the driver to handle. Anything beyond that is arranged with LRS at 844-633-3577 and billed separately by the yard.Official guidance

How do I prepare bulky material for Schaumburg?

Keep every item under 50 pounds, roll carpet and padding no wider than four feet, box broken window glass and label the box, disassemble frames and toilets, and empty and remove fuel tanks from grills and gas equipment before setting the tank out in the trash. Large, awkward or heavy items beyond the included allowance need a special pickup arranged with LRS.Official guidance

How do I set out a mattress in Schaumburg?

Wrap it in plastic and tape and secure every corner with no exposed mattress, then set it at the curb on the collection day. A queen or king mattress is set out the first week and its box spring the following week. Mattress bags are sold at most big box stores.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Schaumburg?

Lakeshore Recycling Systems, known as LRS, has been the village's exclusive residential provider for curbside waste, recycling and yard waste since May 1, 2022. The village pays for the basic program and sets service up automatically, while special services are arranged and paid for by the resident through LRS at 844-633-3577.Official guidance

How much bulk waste is included in Schaumburg?

Two cubic yards of extra material plus up to two bulk items, each under 50 pounds and under two cubic yards, as long as the load is within Illinois landfill rules and safe for the driver to handle. Anything beyond that is scheduled with LRS at 844-633-3577 and billed per yard or as a special pickup.Official guidance

What do the paid services cost?

The village pays the basic program, and the published extras are 3.10 a month for an additional cart plus a 25.00 movement fee per cart on exchanges, 15.49 a month for back door service which can be free with two qualifying conditions, 37.20 a year for an organic waste cart, 25.81 per appliance for a separate appliance collection, and 12.39 per yard with a two yard minimum for non containerized material pickup.Official guidance

Where do electronics go?

To one of the local recyclers the village lists, because electronics are illegal in the regular trash and the contractor tags anything left at the curb. Protech Environmental in Elk Grove takes televisions and monitors of any size for 20.00 and microwaves for 20.00, and the village also lists AVA Recycling, Best Buy on Golf Road, the Elk Grove Township Recycling Center and EZ Electronics Recycling. Batteries, cell phones and CFL bulbs have their own village drop boxes.Official guidance

How does yard waste collection work?

Yard waste runs from April 1 through the second full week in December on the same day as the rest of the collection, using the resident's own can of 35 gallons or less marked YW or brown kraft bags at no charge, with a 50 pound limit and bundles no longer than four feet and two feet in diameter. Food waste may be mixed in, a cart can be rented for a fee, and multi family dwellings are excluded from yard waste service.Official guidance
