Appliances and white goods

Special rules apply

The city's bulky list does not name appliances, and they are not on its refusal list either, so a refrigerator, stove or washer has to be confirmed with GFL before it goes out rather than assumed to ride the unlimited bulky allowance.

City cost & eligibility
No Peoria page names appliances or publishes an appliance charge, so call GFL at 309-688-0760 and confirm the unit before setting it out, and ask at the same time about any refrigerant handling.
When & how
Call GFL at 309-688-0760 to confirm the appliance, then set it out in the published bulky window if it is accepted.
Get it ready
Empty the unit and secure the doors, keep it out of the garbage and recycling carts, and keep chemicals such as oil, antifreeze and refrigerants out of the pile because hazardous material is refused on the bulky route.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Three set-out branches and one time window

Peoria asks residents to put bulky material out as early as 3 p.m. the day before the weekly collection and no later than 6 a.m. on the collection day. An item small enough to fit goes in the trash cart with the lid closed; anything bigger is bagged and the tied bag is set at least three feet from the carts and other obstacles; and an item too large for a bag is set at least three feet clear as well, away from cars, mailboxes and anything else in the way. Calling GFL at 309-688-0760 flags the load so the truck can be staffed for it, and the city states the pickup happens whether or not that call is made.

Six categories that do not ride the bulky truck

The city's bulky page refuses electronics such as computers, televisions and printers, tires, hazardous materials and chemicals, concrete, rock and dirt, and fluorescent tubes, and it sends readers to the other disposal page for each. In practice that means electronic waste is barred from Illinois landfills and goes to an Illinois EPA recommendation instead, chemicals and bulbs stay out of every curbside stream, and tires are handled by one of three local businesses the city names because Peoria runs no tire programme.

Yard waste has its own season and container rules

Yard waste collection runs from April 6 to December 11 in 2026 and is picked up the same day as trash. Containers are plastic or metal carts of 40 to 45 gallons with two handles and a tight fitting lid, or wheeled carts of 65 or 95 gallons, labelled with a Yard Waste Only sticker available at City Hall, Public Works or any GFL location, and compostable paper bags are accepted while compostable plastic bags are not. Lids close, a filled bag may not exceed 30 pounds, containers sit three feet from the trash and recycling carts, and bundles are tied with nonmetallic cord at no more than five feet and 50 pounds. The container moves off the curb within 24 hours and is stored in a garage or alongside the house rather than in front of or behind the home.

Six holidays push the whole week back a day

Collection is delayed by one day when the pickup falls on or after New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day, so a household on a weekly schedule shifts with the holiday and the bulky and yard waste routes follow the same shift.

City of Peoria Public Works with GFL Environmental

Set bulky waste out with the weekly collection

A city household with furniture, a mattress, building materials, carpet or other large household material.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Included in the annual bill for a city of Peoria resident, with the bulky programme published as unlimited and no separate charge. Electronics, tires, chemicals, concrete, rock, dirt and fluorescent tubes are refused.
Arrange it
Set the material out between 3 p.m. the day before and 6 a.m. on the collection day, three feet clear of carts and obstacles, and call GFL at 309-688-0760 to flag the load.

The refusal list is firm, appliances and exercise equipment need confirming first, and nothing may be set out earlier than 3 p.m. the day before the pickup.

Flag the load with GFL

A household setting out a large or awkward pile who wants the truck staffed for it.

Cost & conditions
No charge. The call is free and the city states that the bulky pickup happens whether or not residents notify GFL, so the call is a courtesy step rather than a requirement.
Arrange it
Call GFL at 309-688-0760 to say what is going out, and use the same number for dead animal reports on city right of ways during business hours.

Calling does not make a refused item acceptable, so electronics, tires, chemicals, concrete, rock, dirt and fluorescent tubes stay off the pile regardless.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Peoria's model is curbside rather than drop-off. Bulky waste is unlimited, the fee sits inside the annual bill, and everything from furniture and mattresses to wood, sheetrock, carpet and underpadding goes out with the weekly collection between 3 p.m. the day before the pickup and 6 a.m. on the day itself, three feet clear of the carts. The city publishes no transfer station, landfill or permanent drop-off for a resident on these pages, so the material that cannot ride the truck is routed by category instead: electronic waste is barred from Illinois landfills and goes to an Illinois EPA recommendation, chemicals and fluorescent tubes stay out of every curbside stream with Peoria County Solid Waste Management at 309-681-2550 answering sharps questions, and tires are handled by Firestone at 1601 N Knoxville, Plaza Tire at 1800 SW Washington or Tire Plus at 4700 N Brandywine, which the city says take them for a nominal fee because the city runs no tire programme. Yard waste has its own season from April 6 to December 11 and its own container, labelling and bundle rules, and any week that begins with one of the six listed holidays runs a day late. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Appliance removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Peoria.

How much does appliance removal cost in Peoria?

A full-size household refrigerator is $109 as a single item. A washing machine is $109, and a dryer is $109. Other appliances have their own catalog prices. Choose each item to see your exact total before booking; disposal and recycling costs are included in the item price.

Can I get same-day appliance pickup in Peoria?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Your pickup is scheduled for a day rather than an exact arrival appointment, and we text you before arrival. Have the appliance disconnected and ready outside by your pickup readiness time.

Can you take a washing machine and dryer in one pickup?

Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.

Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?

Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Use a qualified professional for gas, hardwired or plumbing connections when needed. We handle loading and haul-away from the outdoor pickup spot.

Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?

Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.

Can I put an appliance out in Peoria?

The city's bulky waste list names furniture, mattresses, building materials and carpet but not appliances, and appliances are not on the refusal list either, so call GFL at 309-688-0760 and confirm the unit first. If it is accepted it goes out in the same weekly window as other bulky material, between 3 p.m. the day before and 6 a.m. on the collection day and at least three feet from the carts, with the fee already part of the annual bill.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Peoria?

The city of Peoria runs the collection under its Yes, Peoria Picks Up programme with GFL Environmental, and GFL answers at 309-688-0760 for bulky loads and dead animal reports. Bulky waste is published as unlimited with the fee included in the annual bill, so there is no separate large item charge, and the Public Works and Code Enforcement teams handle nuisance complaints at 309-494-8654.Official guidance

How do I put bulky waste out in Peoria?

Put it out between 3 p.m. the day before the weekly collection and 6 a.m. on the collection day. Anything small enough for the trash cart goes inside it with the lid closed, a bigger item is bagged and the tied bag sits at least three feet from the carts and other obstacles, and an item too large for a bag is set at least three feet clear as well. Calling GFL at 309-688-0760 flags the load so the truck can be staffed for it, although the city states the pickup happens without the call.Official guidance

How does yard waste collection work in Peoria?

Yard waste runs from April 6 to December 11 in 2026 and is collected the same day as trash. Use a plastic or metal cart of 40 to 45 gallons with two handles and a tight fitting lid, or a wheeled 65 or 95 gallon cart, labelled Yard Waste Only, or a compostable paper bag, but not a compostable plastic bag. Lids close, a filled bag stays under 30 pounds, containers sit three feet from the trash and recycling carts, and bundles are tied with nonmetallic cord at no more than five feet and 50 pounds.Official guidance

What will not be picked up as bulky waste in Peoria?

Six categories are refused: electronics such as computers, televisions and printers, tires, hazardous materials and chemicals, concrete, rock and dirt, and fluorescent tubes. Electronic waste cannot go to an Illinois landfill at all and the city points to the Illinois EPA for recommendations, chemicals and bulbs stay out of every curbside stream, and tires go to one of three local businesses the city names because Peoria runs no tire programme.Official guidance
