Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.

Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.

Haverhill allows one bulky item a week from each eligible household, and that first item is free, but nothing is collected unless it is scheduled with the city hauler at least two business days ahead. Couches, desks, tables, dressers and similar pieces are the named examples, and mattresses and box springs are not part of this route.
A couch, sofa, upholstered chair, dresser, desk or entertainment center moves through the same scheduled bulky item route, because the city drop-off refuses furniture of every kind. The one-item-a-week allowance covers these pieces, and a futon is listed with or without its mattress.
Exercise equipment is on the Capitol Waste bulky item price list, so a treadmill, a weight bench or a home gym moves through the scheduled bulky collection. The Recycling Center does not accept equipment or furniture, and exercise equipment is not part of the cart or the overflow bag allowance.
The handoff matters
Household trash goes out in the city-issued 64-gallon wheeled cart, bagged, with the lid closed and nothing placed on top of it. Waste that does not fit goes in an official orange overflow bag beside the cart, and the allowance is five overflow bags a week; a household that regularly produces more has to arrange private pickup or rent an extra cart from the city. The bags are for household trash only, so yard waste, recyclables, construction debris and hazardous material do not belong in them, and bags go beside the cart rather than on or inside it.
