Haverhill runs its own automated residential collection: one 64-gallon city cart per unit, bagged household trash only inside it, orange overflow bags for the occasional extra, and mandatory single-stream recycling every other week on the same day as the trash. Anything too large for the cart has to be booked, because the city allows one free bulky item a week through its hauler Capitol Waste Services and requires a call at least two business days before the normal collection day. Set-out windows, cart placement and who is eligible
Nothing goes to the curb before 4:00 PM on the day before collection, everything has to be out by 6:00 AM on the collection day, and empty containers come back off the curb by 11:59 PM that night. Carts need about three feet of clearance from poles, mailboxes, hydrants, trees and parked cars, no more than five feet from the curb edge, with the lid arrows facing the street so the truck arm can service them. Single-family homes through eight-unit buildings are eligible for city collection, with one cart per unit, and a condominium complex already on dumpster service keeps that service.
